“Behold, your King is coming to you.” (Zech. 9:9, NKJV)
The invitations have been printed and addressed. “’Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,’ says the LORD. “Many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and they shall become My people. And I will dwell in your midst” (Zech. 2:10-11).
What is the cause for celebration? What occasion can prompt such joyous uproar? “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation… He shall speak peace to the nations; His dominion shall be ‘from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.’” (Zech. 9:9–10).
How will we recognize this King? With much pomp and circumstance? Leading a mighty army? He will come “lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey” (Zech. 9:9).
Each of the Gospel account carries news of His arrival. Seated on a donkey, palm branches spread before Him, He would enter Jerusalem to shouts. “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’ Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” (Mark 11:9–10)
Christian, behold your King, righteous and having salvation.
