Psalm 78:12-16

June 10, 2011

Psalm 78:12-16

In the sight of their fathers he performed wonders in the land of Egypt, in the fields of Zoan. He divided the sea and let them pass through it, and made the waters stand like a heap. In the daytime he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a fiery light. He split rocks in the wilderness and gave them drink abundantly as from the deep. He made streams come out of the rock and caused waters to flow down like rivers.

Yet time after time, You have pulled Your Church back from the brink of apostasy, bringing renewal and revival. You have brought the fire of the Holy Spirit to cleanse and restore the Body and set it upon the King's Highway once again. Your mighty and gracious hand has not been stayed.

Psalm 78:9-11

June 09, 2011

Psalm 78:9-11

The Ephraimites, armed with the bow, turned back on the day of battle. They did not keep God's covenant, but refused to walk according to his law. They forgot his works and the wonders that he had shown them.

The Church, Lord, as did Israel, has gone whoring after other gods. We have accepted the world's definitions of tolerance, choice, marriage, infidelity, sin, love, justice, righteousness, judgment, ... the list is endless. We accept pride, greed, lust and immorality as normative for life. We have forgotten the One who loves us and died for us, we have abandoned our salvation.

Psalm 78:1-8

June 08, 2011

Psalm 78:1-8

A Maskil of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth! I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old, things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments; and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.

Most appropriate, Lord, on a day where we are scheduled to go into the prison to teach. Clothe us in humility and fill us with Your wisdom as we seek to bring understanding to the men. Give us discernment and compassionate spirits; show us the way of Your righteousness and justice.

Bless the men; open the ears of their hearts, give them understanding, lead them in the path of righteousness, equip them to advance the Kingdom throughout the prison.

Hebrews 6:10-12

June 07, 2011

Hebrews 6:10-12

For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do. And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Lord, accept that what I do is out of gratefulness for Your salvation, not an attempt to curry Your favor. Help me and lead me to carry that same message to all of Your people to show them the route along the King's Highway. Bless me, Lord.

Psalm 77:16-20

June 06, 2011

Psalm 77:16-20

When the waters saw you, O God, when the waters saw you, they were afraid; indeed, the deep trembled. The clouds poured out water; the skies gave forth thunder; your arrows flashed on every side. The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind; your lightnings lighted up the world; the earth trembled and shook. Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen. You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

The signs of the forecasted Arctic blast are upon us; the wind rising, the temperatures falling and we will experience the evidence of Your might once again. How many will recognize Your voice in the storm? Will I remember that this is one of the ways You speak to Your people? Will I remember to praise You at the height of the gale? Will I remember to call upon You to reveal Yourself to all and to refresh our awareness of Your grace and mercy?

Psalm 119:32

June 05, 2011

Psalm 119:32

I will run in the way of your commandments when you enlarge my heart!

It is exercise that enlarges the heart, aerobic exercise. It is spiritual exercise that enlarges my spiritual heart. Time in the Word, time in prayer, time in meditation, time in service, time in living my life according to Your will; an incarnational life.

Psalm 77:10-15

June 04, 2011

Psalm 77:10-15

Then I said, "I will appeal to this, to the years of the right hand of the Most High." I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples. You with your arm redeemed your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

Your mighty hand has lifted me out of despair and into Life with You. You have vanquished the forces of evil and sin that were destroying my life and replaced them with the forces of love, grace and mercy. You are the awesome God. That God who loves His creation and His people above all other; who loved the loved the beauty of His creation to the point of self-sacrifice to redeem it from the ravages of sin and corruption. Praise You, LORD, God Almighty.

June 03, 2011

Psalm 77:7-9

Will the Lord spurn forever, and never again be favorable? (8) Has his steadfast love forever ceased? Are his promises at an end for all time? (9) Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?" Selah

Lord, do not give up on me, bring me to the point where I must witness, where the very stones will cry out if I do not. Help me, Lord.

Psalm 77:1-6

June 02, 2011

Psalm 77:1-6

To the choirmaster: according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph. I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me. In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted. When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. I consider the days of old, the years long ago. I said, "Let me remember my song in the night; let me meditate in my heart." Then my spirit made a diligent search:

Lord, it seems that my concern more and more is centering upon my witness to my children and grandchildren. I am a failure at carrying the message of Your love and grace to them. Help me, Lord. Why do I shirk my responsibilities to them? Heal me, Lord.

Hebrews 11:32-12:1

June 01, 2011

Hebrews 11:32-12:1

And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets-- (33) who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, (34) quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. (35) Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life. (36) Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. (37) They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated-- (38) of whom the world was not worthy--wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. (39) And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised, (40) since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. (12:1) Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

The picture is that I am running into a stadium, filled with a great company of those who have run before, cheering me on, exhorting me to discard the encumbrances and throw away the unproductive, while focusing on the goal. The goal of a fully transformed life in Christ lies before me, the saints at my side to provide the evidence of that life.

Psalm 76:10-12

May 31, 2011

Psalm 76:10-12

Surely the wrath of man shall praise you; the remnant of wrath you will put on like a belt. Make your vows to the LORD your God and perform them; let all around him bring gifts to him who is to be feared, who cuts off the spirit of princes, who is to be feared by the kings of the earth.

I come to You this morning to dedicate every aspect of my life to Your Lordship. I seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit to reveal those areas of my life that have not been submitted to You and to lead me in ruthlessly exposing them to the searing light of Your grace and mercy. Bring me to my knees in repentance wherever rebellion exists; let me not continue in my double-minded ways. In the power of Your name and in that power alone do I pray.

Psalm 76:7-9

May 30, 2011

Psalm 76:7-9

But you, you are to be feared! Who can stand before you when once your anger is roused? From the heavens you uttered judgment; the earth feared and was still, when God arose to establish judgment, to save all the humble of the earth. Selah

LORD, You are beyond comprehension; Your anger when You are aroused by the stench of sin, the mercy displayed because of Your love for Your creation; all to restore those who seek You and who cry out to You. You are light and in You is no darkness.
