Psalm 119:38

May 02, 2013

Confirm to your servant your promise, that you may be feared.

These great and precious promises, Lord, must inspire a fear of You in me that is terror at being in the Presence of the Almighty while being awed at the Power of the Living God and being completely overwhelmed with the Richness of Your Love, Grace and Mercy. Absolute sensory overload.

Psalm 119:36, 37

May 01, 2013

Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain!

Lord, guide me into the proper priorities, seeking first Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Keep me from being concerned with my selfish desire, but direct me in serving my neighbors and into supplying their spiritual and temporal needs

Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.

Often times, Lord, I am tired and listless, not realizing that You are there to encourage and refresh. But when I shift my gaze from the trivial and temporal to the eternal and significant, that I begin to find life and joy. Righteousness, peace and joy is to be found in Your Word, it defines Kingdom living.

Psalm 119:34, 35

April 30, 2013

Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart.

Understanding/wisdom/discernment--all interconnected, all absolutely necessary and all a gift through the Holy Spirit to enable me to walk along the King's Highway. The Way of Righteousness, Peace and Joy in the Holy Spirit.

Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it.

The Path of Your Commandments, the King's Highway, the Way of the Righteous, the Life of Delight in the Lord's Presence, what joy to be in the aroma of the Kingdom of Heaven, redolence, opulence, peace with contentment. Praise You, my Lord.

Psalm 119:33

April 29, 2013

Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes; and I will keep it to the end.

This has got to be heart learning, not head learning. Lord, teach me, transform me, make me totally new. It is impossible for me to live according to Your Word without such a transformation. I will not/cannot live so on my own. Teach me, Lord.

He Psalms 119:33-40

April 28, 2013

Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes; and I will keep it to the end. (34) Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart. (35) Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it. (36) Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain! (37) Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways. (38) Confirm to your servant your promise, that you may be feared. (39) Turn away the reproach that I dread, for your rules are good. (40) Behold, I long for your precepts; in your righteousness give me life!

“Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things” Lord, how much time do I waste in a day with activities that do not honor or glorify You? I need to learn to judge every moment of my life by its impact on the advancement of Your Kingdom. Help me, Lord, for the Evil One is sly and devious and I am easily persuaded. Just a few minutes spent in idleness, not even resting in You, won't hurt and it will be refreshing. I fall for it every time. Give me the will to guard my time so that it is utilized for You.

Psalm 119:102

April 28, 2013

I do not turn aside from your rules, for you have taught me.

You gently lead me, providing instruction by word and example, interpreting through the Holy Spirit so that I am continuously reminded of all that You said and did.

April 27, 2013

All who hate me whisper together about me; they imagine the worst for me. They say, "A deadly thing is poured out on him; he will not rise again from where he lies." Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.

It is not people who oppress me, Lord, it is various sins that still reside in me: anger, lust, pride, avarice, covetousness, greed, devotion to other gods, the list goes on and on. These come between me and You, It is only through Your grace and patience that I overcome.

Psalm 41:4-6

April 26, 2013

As for me, I said, "O LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against you!" My enemies say of me in malice, "When will he die, and his name perish?" And when one comes to see me, he utters empty words, while his heart gathers iniquity; when he goes out, he tells it abroad.

Lord, where have I sinned against You by neglecting Your directive to love my neighbor? Where have I not offered comfort and solace to someone who is hurting? Where have I not provided food to the hungry or visited the sick? Where have I not recognized an opportunity to advance the Kingdom by offering the Good News? Lord, the list goes on and on, but You forgive when I repent; continue the transformation.

Psalm 41:1-3

April 25, 2013

To the choirmaster. A Psalm .of David. Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble the LORD delivers him; he LORD protects him and keeps him alive; he is called blessed in the land; you do not give him up to the will of his enemies. The LORD sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health.

Lord, as I think about what it means to consider the poor, my thoughts are directed towards You and the example You set for me. You, the Infinitely Rich One, the Unpoor, the Creator of all and the One to whom all things belong, gave it all up to rescue and redeem one who by his deliberate actions and choices has taken himself into complete and total poverty. You offer the Ultimate Gift, Your life in exchange for mine; You died that I might live. Hallelujah, what a Savior.

James 4:17

April 24, 2013

So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

Now the acid test—Will I obey? Will I apply the Word of God to all aspects of my life? Knowing right from wrong and having the Holy Spirit to guide me into all truth, there is no valid excuse for disobedience.

James 1:23-25

April 23, 2013

For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

Just as I learn by teaching so it is that I understand and believe by doing. It is the comprehension that comes for being a faithful applier of the Word of God to all aspects of my life.

Psalm 40:17

April 22, 2013

As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God!

When I do recognize that I am poor and needy, then You deliver the transformation that I need. Until then, while I proudly declare my own sufficiency, You let me wallow in the pigsty I have created. It is when I crucify self that salvation comes.
