9.2 Be truthful to your neighbor

Do not lie to, deceive, or otherwise deal falsely or dishonestly with your neighbor.

Deuteronomy 23.21-23

“‘If you make a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not delay fulfilling it, for the LORD your God will surely require it of you, and you will be guilty of sin.

9.1 Be truthful to God

We are to be holy to the Lord in all things and diligent to fulfill our vows.

Deuteronomy 20.10-18

“‘When you draw near to a city to fight against it, offer terms of peace to it.

The Commandment

God is a God of Truth, and He has entrusted to us a stewardship of His Truth, such that we must always be diligent to speak the truth in love, and to deal truthfully with God and with our neighbor.

8.7 Do justice in time of war

Wage war when necessary without fear and in order to secure the promises of God.

Exodus 21.26, 27

“When a man strikes the eye of his slave, male or female, and destroys it, he shall let the slave go free because of his eye.

Deuteronomy 15.12-18

“‘If your brother, a Hebrew man or a Hebrew woman, is sold to you, he shall serve you six years, and in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you.

8.6 Regulate slavery

Slavery was allowed in ancient Israel, but only within strict parameters of justice and fairness for the enslaved.

Deuteronomy 14.28, 29

“‘At the end of every three years you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in the same year and lay it up within your towns.

Deuteronomy 15.9-10

“‘Take care lest there be an unworthy thought in your heart and you say, “The seventh year, the year of release is near,” and your eye look grudgingly on your poor brother, and you give him nothing, and he cry to the LORD against you, and you be guilty of sin.

Leviticus 19.9, 10

“When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest.
