All One in Him

How big is our vision of Christ?

A Framework for Faith/Spiritual Vision

All things, therefore, that were made by the Word, live in him unchangeably and are life. In him all things exist neither by temporal intervals or places, nor as what is to come; but all are one in him, above all times and places, and subsist in him eternally.

  - John Scotus Eriugena, Homily on John 1.1-14 (Irish, 9th century)

And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

  - Colossians 1.17

How big is our vision of Christ? We know that He reigns at the Father's right hand, and that He possesses a glorified body which was recognizable to those who knew Him. Still, He is God. He is the Word, the Logos, of God. He is the Wisdom of the Father, and, as His Word, is the very fabric of the cosmos, all of which exists in Him.

How big is our vision of Christ? Do we see Him as larger by far than the entire vast universe that hangs together in Him and by His Word? Do we see Him as commanding and sustaining every particle and place of the vast cosmos, every moment of every day, by the power of His eternal mind and Spirit?

How big is our vision of Christ? Is He big enough, to the eyes of our heart, to contain the cosmos, sustain the cosmos, direct and rule the cosmos, cause all creatures throughout the entire cosmos to obey His eternal and infallible will? Dissolve and remake the heavens and the earth when it pleases Him to do so?

And, if so, is He then big enough to be the Driving Force in every aspect of our lives? To deliver us into joy and pleasure beyond what we can ever know in flesh alone? To engage us with the glory of God and transform us into His own astonishing image and likeness? Is our Jesus this big?

And if He is, do you think He could move us to greater consistency and boldness in urging others to consider Him?
