Gaining the Benefits of God’s Law

A Kingdom Catechism

Christians bring the benefits of God’s Law to their neighbors.

Q 24: How do nonbelievers gain these benefits of God’s Law?

A 24: Nonbelievers gain these benefits of God’s Law when the redeemed of the Lord walk in obedience to the Law and proclaim the teaching of the Law by their lives and words. (Psalm 81.15; Mic. 4.1-50)

How will any society know what God requires, and what He has prepared for the blessing and wellbeing of all people, unless those who know their God walk in obedience to Him and make known His ways? Western society was built on the moral, legal, social, and cultural foundation of the Word of God, and while the memory of that is fast fading, the lingering benefits of that worldview remain.

The task for God’s people in any age is to take up the practice of God’s Word, beginning with His Law, so that they live and teach the tenets of love for God and neighbor encoded therein, in ways appropriate to the conditions and opportunities presented to them in their society. When God’s people fail to live by, teach, and work for a society grounded in the Law of God, the rebellious, autonomous, pragmatic, and ultimately dangerous and destructive ways of sinful human beings will leach into the laws of the land, jeopardizing safety, order, and wellbeing.
