Charged with Proclamation

A Kingdom Catechism

All believers are charged with proclaiming the Law of God.

Q 31: Who is charged with preaching God’s Law to nonbelievers?

A 31: All those who have been redeemed are called to be witnesses for Christ and to proclaim His Law to the nations by word and deed. (Acts 1.8; Matt. 28.18-20; Matt. 5.13-19; Mic. 4.1-5)

Because conviction of sin is essential to saving faith, the Law of God defines the nature of sin, and the Holy Spirit works with the Law of God to bring conviction to the human soul (Ezek. 36.36, 37; Jn. 16.8-11), it is essential that believers, in proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom of God, do not omit to declare the Law of God as that which Jesus has fulfilled and which now convicts us of our need for the Savior.

In addition, without teaching from the Law of God it will be difficult to bring the benefits of that Law to the public through the medium of law and public policy. Here the believer’s focus will be on the Law’s power to define and restrain sin, and, thus, to help ensure a just social order. We must present the Law of God as the way to wisdom and a good society, and thus enable government to fulfill a measure of its divine charge (Rom. 13.1-5).
