The “Core Curriculum”

A Kingdom Catechism

The Law is foundational to the Spirit’s sanctifying work.

Q 40: How may believers have confidence that they can learn to walk in God’s Law?

A 40: Believers may have confidence in their ability to learn and walk in God’s Law because the Spirit of God is at work within them, making them willing and able to obey the Law. (Ezek. 36.26, 27; Phil. 2.12, 13; Eph. 3.20)

The Law of God provides a kind of “core curriculum” for the life of faith, which the Spirit of God uses to make us willing and able live in the righteousness of Jesus Christ, which is pleasing to God. If we neglect this “core curriculum” then we shall have difficulty integrating any other studies of God’s Word into the framework the Spirit intends to use in furthering our sanctification. If we apply ourselves diligently to studying the Law of God (Ps. 1), as well as all the Spirit-inspired Word of God, we may expect that the Spirit Who dwells in our hearts by faith will use that Word to shape our hearts, minds, and consciences so that we may follow Christ faithfully in every area of life.
