Pursuing Holiness

A Kingdom Catechism

Believers are to bring holiness to completion in the fear of God.

Q 50: How do the redeemed of the Lord pursue holiness?

A 50: The redeemed pursue holiness by fearing the Lord, obeying all His commandments, and serving Him only in all their ways. (Deut. 10.12, 13; Deut. 11.1)

The Lord, of course, is holy. His Law is holy and righteous and good (Rom. 7.12). Christians are called to follow the holy path that Jesus walked, and to bring holiness to completion in the fear of God (1 Jn. 2.1-6; 2 Cor. 7.1). The Law of God, under the tutelage and in the power of the Holy Spirit, is an indispensable aid in this process. In the Law God commands us to fear Him (Deut. 10.12-16), knowing, as He does, that fear is appropriate, coupled with love, to sustain us along the path of holiness. By studying the Law and Word of God and meditating on the Lord and His holiness, and by walking in obedience to all the Word of God, believers may expect to make consistent progress in holiness and, thus, to realize a significant measure of what it means to be saved.
