The Requirement of Justice

A Kingdom Catechism

The fifth commandment teaches us to pursue justice.

Q 87: How do the redeemed of the Lord give others the respect which is their due?

A 87: The redeemed of the Lord give others the respect which is their due by seeking justice in all matters, honoring the integrity of all men, and loving their neighbors as themselves. (Deut. 16.20; Deut. 24.10-13; Matt. 22.34-40)

In the divine economy love takes the form of justice, or, proper adherence to the teaching of God’s Law and all His Word. All the Law and the prophets, and all the New Testament, outline the paths of love for God and neighbors which are the fabric of the divine economy. We respect people as the image-bearers of God when we account them worthy of the kind of love shown them by God, Who causes His sun to shine and His rain to fall on the just and the unjust alike.
