A 97: The redeemed of the Lord protect and care for their neighbors by carefully considering their interests and concerns, guarding against any actions which might bring them undue harm, and going beyond what may be required to love their neighbors as themselves. (Deut. 19.1-10; Deut. 24.6; Deut. 22.8; Matt. 5.38-42)
Christians must not look out only for their own interests, but for the concerns and wellbeing of others (Rom. 12.3-9; Phil. 2.4-11). Such duty begins in prayer, especially in guarding one’s own affections against murder or covetousness. But it also extends to taking an interest in our neighbors and being available as needed or able to contribute to their wellbeing, whether by word or deed, at every opportunity, and to protect their names, property, and health insofar as we able to do so.
