The Promise of the Seventh Commandment

A Kingdom Catechism

God promises to bless and protect those who obey Him.

Q 107: What promise does the Lord hold out for the redeemed in the seventh commandment?

A 107: In exchange for their obedience to the seventh commandment the Lord promises to protect His people from evil and all depravity and abomination. (Deut. 22.22; Lev. 20.14; Lev. 19.29; Lev. 18.22; Lev. 20.13; Deut. 24.1-4)

There will always be sexual sin in human society, and so the evils attendant to sexual sin will always be present to some degree. But where the Law of God is honored in this matter, God promises to bring peace, purity, and protection, the fruit of human relationships based on love for God and His Word and love for our neighbors as the image-bearers of God. The world encourages maximum indulgence in sexual satisfaction, and it brings upon itself the displeasure of God in so doing. Among the people of God, we must demonstrate the truth of God’s Law by faithfulness in this and all matters of justice.
