Interpreting the Law of God (35)

Jesus is always the Key to interpreting God’s Law.

So then the law was our guardian until Christ came… Galatians 3.24

That word “guardian” is “pedagogue” – schoolmaster, teacher, tutor, guide. The Law leads us to Jesus, not just for salvation, but for every benefit of the Law and all the Word of God.

Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Law and promises of God. So no matter where we’re reading or studying in the Law of God, we’re never very far from Jesus. And it’s important that we try to trace the line from the Law to Jesus, or else we may end up somewhere other than where the Law intends us to be.

We might think the Law of God a strange or difficult place to look in seeking to learn Christ. But if we do not seek Jesus in the Law, we will surely miss the Spirit of the Law and, thus, not be able to apply it as we should.

Go to the Law daily and let the Spirit instruct you in Jesus. Then you’ll know the mind and power and life of the Spirit in ways that, apart from the Law, will always continue to elude you.
