Foundations of a Worldview

And now, Israel, what does the LORDyour God require of you, but to fear the LORDyour God, to walk in all His ways…” Deuteronomy 10.12

The Law of God reveals the foundations of a worldview, a way of understanding our lives in the world and living them according to the eternal plan of God. The worldview communicated in the Law of God is the seed kernel of the entire Biblical worldview – the acorn to the oak of Biblical revelation, as it were. That worldview is grounded in spiritualrealties, chief among these, God and His promises. The promises of God are for the blessing and boon of all who enter into a covenant relationship with God, and who seek Him and His promises as the orienting points and driving force of their lives.

The people of God engage and enjoy thevision which the Law presents by practicing various disciplines. By these they train themselves, soul and body, to know the Lord and to gain the blessings of His covenant.

As God’s people seek Him and His promises, by taking up the disciplines He prescribes, their lives take on a particular cast. The Law of God is meant for living. The worldview presented in God’s Law prescribes a particular manner of living, a way of life characterized by love for God and love for neighbors.

God’s Law speaks to every aspect of human life, and He calls those who know Him and seek Him to bring their lives to fruition in outcomesof loveaffecting all their relationships, roles, and responsibilities.

All of life is spiritual in the worldview of God’s Law, because all of life is lived before God. And when we live before God according to His Word, then we know the promise of life which the worldview of God’s Law holds out for us.
