Retribution

The Law of God for Daily Meditation

Morning Meditation
Deuteronomy 22.25-27
25  “But if a man finds a betrothed young woman in the countryside, and the man forces her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die. 26 But you shall do nothing to the young woman; there isin the young woman no sin deservingof death, for just as when a man rises against his neighbor and kills him, even so isthis matter. 27 For he found her in the countryside, andthe betrothed young woman cried out, but there wasno one to save her.”

Sexual abuse is increasing in our day, and many will be victimized by it even today. Lord, have mercy; let Your Spirit restrain evil in our land, and protect those who may be victimized by the wantonness of others.

Evening Meditation
Leviticus 24.17-22
17“‘Whoever kills any man shall surely be put to death. 18 Whoever kills an animal shall make it good, animal for animal. 19 If a man causes disfigurement of his neighbor, as he has done, so shall it be done to him— 20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has caused disfigurement of a man, so shall it be done to him. 21 And whoever kills an animal shall restore it; but whoever kills a man shall be put to death. 22 You shall have the same law for the stranger and for one from your own country; for I am the LORD your God.’”

Retribution is an important component of justice, but only according to God’s Word, and by the proper authorities. Lord, thank You that You stay Your hand against those who deserve wrath – people like me. If I have any sin to confess, show me, I pray.
