The Law of God for Daily Meditation

Morning Meditation

Exodus 21.16

“Whoever steals a man and sells him, and anyone found in possession of him, shall be put to death.”

Deuteronomy 24.7

“‘If a man is found stealing one of his brothers, of the people of Israel, and if he treats him as a slave or sells him, then that thief shall die. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.’”

No one has a right to “steal” another person – or to steal his dignity, hope, or identity. What can I do today to “shore up” the dignity, hope, and identify of the people in my life?

Evening Meditation
Deuteronomy 15.11

“‘For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, “You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.”’”

Deuteronomy 15.7, 8

“‘If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the LORDyour God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be.’”

Many people are materially poor, and many more are spiritually poor. Am I doing all I can to help meet the needs of the poor?
