Thinking for Action

Christian thinkers think to act.

The Christian Mind

For the weapons of our warfare arenot carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ… 2 Corinthians 10.4, 5

The Christian Mind
Harry Blamires (1916-)
“The thinker hates indecision and confusion; he firmly distinguishes right from wrong, good from evil; he is at home in a world of clearly demarcated categories and proven conclusions; he is dogmatic and committed; he works toward decisive action.”

That phrase “decisive action” needs some unpacking. Most Christians will insist that they make decisions and take actions every day. Does that mean we’re already functioning as the thinkers Blamires longed to see? We must keep in the back of our minds Biblical categories of right and wrong, good and evil, truth and falsehood, beauty and goodness. When such categories form the backdrop of our deciding and acting, we will make decisions and take actions that pull down strongholds of unbelief, cast down arguments denying the Gospel and making light of God and His Word, and bring to comeuppance every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. We will take every thought captive not merely to make decisions and take actions, but to Christ, and to such decisions and actions as seek and further His Kingdom and righteousness in every area of our lives. Yeah, we’re not there yet.

Does your church have a forum or context for talking about contemporary issues and concerns from the perspective of Christ and His Kingdom? Should you have such a forum? What might that look like, and how might it help to encourage the development of a Christian mind among the people you serve?

Mission Partners Outreach

Our Mission Partners Outreach programcan equip you to equip your church members to identify and work their Personal Mission Fields from the vantage point of a Gospel worldview and Holy Spirit power. I’m looking for some men to go through this program with me. If you’d like me to take you through this free, six-month program, and help you see how it could be used in your church, drop me a line at This email address is being protected from spambots.
