Checking it at the Door

Are we leaving our Christian mind at church?

The Christian Mind

But to the wicked God says:
“What
right have you to declare My statutes,
Or take My covenant in your mouth,
Seeing you hate instruction
And cast My words behind you?”
Psalm 50.16, 17

The Christian Mind
Harry Blamires (1916-)
“The collision between the Christian mind and a solidly earthbound culture ought to be a violent one. In fact the impact does not occur; for the Christian lays aside the presuppositions proper to supernaturally oriented personality when he steps outside the sphere of specifically religious activity or of personal morality. He speaks the language of secularism.”

Whatever we teach at church or in our Bible study groups or personal devotions that seems to imply our faith in Christ is for living in this world, here and now, with a view to seeing the world to come increasingly evident in our lives and activities – whatever we teach or affirm of such ideas during any “specifically religious activity”, is checked at the door as those we teach go out. As a community, we cast behind us the plain teaching of the Christian worldview as we go among our secular neighbors and associates. We may not actually “hate instruction,” but when we leave God’s words behind as we sally forth to our lives in the world, the effect is the same. Instead of speaking the language of the Kingdom of God, we fall in step with the language, agenda, and terms of our secular and unbelieving age. Which begs the question, I think, What do we really believe?

How can believers encourage one another to more vibrant and consistent living the Christian worldview in the everyday places and situations of our lives?

Your Life as Christ Sees It

“As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you” (Jn. 20.21). That’s how Jesus thinks about our lives. Our Mission Partners Outreach program is designed as a life-based training curriculum, to help church members identify and begin thinking about and working their Personal Mission Fields for the purpose of making disciples and advancing Christ’s Kingdom. I’m looking for some men to lead through this training program, and to help you see how our Missions Partners Outreach programcan help your church overcome its failure to communicate.
