The Call of Grace

God calls us through the things of this world.

The Christian Mind

I have seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied. He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.
Ecclesiastes 3.10, 11

The Christian Mind
Harry Blamires (1916-)
“The Christian mind synthesizes in terms of God’s demand and man’s response. As it is in obedience to moral law and in progress in the spiritual life, so it is in the grateful and humble response to the pull of beauty in love, or art, or Nature. In all these instances it is the voice of God which calls, and the grace of God which urges them to listen.”

Everything in life bears witness to God. God has charged us with the task of knowing Him and making His glory known to the world (Hos. 6.1-3; Hab. 2.14). We are made in His image, made to live under His authority, and in His Name, and we have been redeemed to bring the goodness of God to light in the land of the living (Ps. 27.13, 14). God has created us within an eternal frame of reference, to live “under the heavens” and not merely “under the sun.” He invites us to know Him by every ribbon and thread of revelation, whether in His Word or His works. Our lives can be more fulfilling and more fruitful as we learn to heed the call of God and draw on His grace to know Him and to live for His glory. As we learn, that is, to think with the mind of Christ.

Why do you suppose churches don’t teach about the arts, about creation, or about any of the ways God reveals Himself to us beyond the pages of His Word?
