Rooted in Christ

Psalter Daily Prayer Guide Week 1/Day 6

Read Psalm 6

“Turn, O LORD, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love.” (Psalm 6:4, ESV)

Drawing Near

Heavenly Father, I praise you as my God and thank you for the multitude of blessings that are mine in Christ. By his sacrifice on the cross, my sins are forgiven. By his obedience in my place, I am counted righteous. But these are eclipsed by the greatest, most unfathomable of all your blessings to me—that I am adopted as your child, heir of eternal life. Abba, I thank you for your strong and tender care of me. You discipline me for my good, that I may share your holiness.  The hardships and trials of life are gifts to me to yield the peaceful fruit of righteousness under the tutelage of your discipline. Grant me a willing spirit and an obedient mind. Make me teachable, submissive to your will, responsive to your commands. Help me to persevere in your service and in this work of prayer.

Reaching Out

Gracious Lord, the pain and anguish of life weigh heavy on those for whom I am praying. Even now I lift before you the needs that weigh them down…  In your mercy, grant them the hope of eternal life. Grant me opportunity to tell them of days in store for those who know you and rest in your Son, a day when you will wipe tears from the eyes of your children, when there will be no more suffering or crying or pain; death will be no more. Use me to open their eyes to the splendor of the promises bound up in Jesus Christ. Enfold them into the community of those who bear your name that they might have strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.

Enemy Profile

O Lord, I find it so easy to grow weary from the opposition I experience in this world. Against my enemy the devil grant me deliverance. Sustain me in the encouragement of your steadfast love. Confident that you hear the sound of my weeping and the words of my pleas, keep me from the workers of evil that oppress my soul. Help me to consider Jesus who endured opposition from sinful men so that I will not grow weary and lose heart. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame and now sits in victory for his church. May my suffering for the cause of Christ be my joy.

Mutual Support

Be gracious to my brethren, O Lord. Keep them from the discouragement fueled by a fallen world and fostered by lack of focus on Jesus. May your truths and your promises be a wall protecting them from the fiery darts of the evil one. Strengthen their faith that all your enemies will be ashamed and will not prevail. As they cry out “how long?” grant them the grace to persevere and not weary in well doing.
