A Psalm. O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvelous things: Psalm 98:1-3

A Psalm. O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvelous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory. The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen. He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

How many of the hymns and choruses truly are songs of praise and worship? How many are gimmes at their base or even worse? How many are explaining to the LORD, God, the Almighty, that the singer is a pretty good fellow and is doing great things for the LORD?

I’m afraid that much of our so-called worship singing is actually self-laudatory. We are so proud of what we have done in His name that we can’t wait to remind Him in case He missed some little nauance.

Rather “O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvelous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.”
