Acts 16:22-25

The crowd joined in attacking them, and the magistrates tore the garments off them and gave orders to beat them with rods. And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them safely. Having received this order, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them,

Giving thanks in all circumstances (1 Thess. 5:18) What an example to all of us, if Paul and Silas sit in stocks after experiencing severe beatings and spend the night singing hymns and praying rather than writhing in pain, why can't I do the same during a sleepless period of the night? No, I lay there and mutter to myself complaining about the ache or the worry that is spoiling my sleep.

Lord, help me to realize that these periods of wakefulness are gifts form You, opportunities to praise and thank You for all Your blessings.
