The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

What a complete and comforting sentence’ “The LORD is thy keeper.” No limitations, no exclusions, just a simple statement of fact. He is my keeper. For evermore. But it is up to me to accept the gift freely offered and make it the center of my life.

Samekh I hate the double-minded, but I love your law. You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word. Depart from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commandments of my God. “You are my hiding place and my shield.” Think of the comfort wrapped up in that short clause. The LORD, God, the Almighty, the One who said, “Let there be…” and there was. Light! And …. finally in Genesis 1:26-27 “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” And there was…

In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me. Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue? Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper. Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar. My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace. I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.

It’s slowly soaking in, LORD, that as one who is sworn to You, I am faced frequently with lying lips and deceitful tongues. Give me wisdom to recognize deliberate attempts to lead me astray and ruin my witness.

Also, there are times when falsehood is so attractively packaged that I fall into the trap. I need the oversight of the Holy Spirit.

Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity. Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD. God is the LORD, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar. Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

To beseech is to ask with urgency, to beg. It is not a “Hey, Dad, can I borrow the family car tonight?” type of asking. It carries a sense of urgency--”I need ….now” Importance and necessary. Do my prayers carry that sense of beseeching or are they in a when You get around to it, LORD, would you mind, if its not too much trouble tone?

This should not be! I am addressing the LORD, God, the Almighty with a need that only He can resolve. It is an act of Worship when I go to Him with a need. It also reflects a willingness to accept His resolution of the problem.

I need to train myself to begin each day, while I still abed and gathering my thoughts for the day, to make that avowal, that declaration of the LORD’s goodness as my statement of purpose for the entire day. I must develop the conviction that I am called to stare down the Evil One as I rejoice in another day of the LORD’s goodness.

Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall: but the LORD helped me. The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation. The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. The right hand of the LORD is exalted: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.

OK, got it. It is the valiant and exalted right hand of the LORD that does it. But the unanswered questions areregarding what is ‘it’ that is done? What is ‘it’ that is accomplished? Who is the beneficiary? Questions to be answered and worth searching for.

All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them. They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

This passage brings to mind the terrible persecution being imposed on the Church throughout the Middle East, the Far East and much of Africa. Our brothers and sisters are surrounded by swarms of Hindu and Muslim and other religions; all seeking the destruction of the Faith. But in the end, the LORD, God, the Almighty is the fire of thorns that will preserve His people.

NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments. I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O LORD, according unto thy word. Accept, I beseech thee, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O LORD, and teach me thy judgments. My soul is continually in my hand: yet do I not forget thy law. The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from thy precepts. Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart. I have inclined mine heart to perform thy statutes alway, even unto the end.

There as so many phrases that jump right off the page every time I read them, but so many from the 119th. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet being an excellent example. Maybe another interesting project would be to examine this Psalm for Page Jumpers.

In the meantime, keeping on with the search for the Spirit’s leading in prayer to the LORD, God, the Almighty. Look at this one: “Accept, I beseech thee, the free will offerings of my mouth” Ish Elohim nails it precisely when he offers his prayers as being free will. No one is standing over him, dictating the format and content of his prayers except the Holy Spirit.

I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

To encapsulate this passage into one short pithy statement—It is always better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in any other alternative.

We can put elaborate schemes in place, but they fail. The LORD, God, the Almighty never fails any of His people. No way! No how! No condition! Never!!!!!!!!!!

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever. Let Israel now say, that his mercy endureth for ever. Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever. Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

Look at the way this Psalm progresses from the infinite, applied to all, but without reservation or restriction. The sole reason for giving thanks unto the LORD, is that He is universally good.

It then begins to narrow the application to Israel and then to the descendants of Aaron. If we stopped there, someone would use this passage to support the notion that only ordained ministers should pray. Utter nonsense.

But see that is actually applied to all who fear the LORD. Hallelujah! Let us all lift our voices together.

O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people. For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.

A commandment, two reasons for obedience to the commandment. Doesn’t this entirely wrap up our responsibilities as children of the LORD, God, the Almighty?

The overwhelming part of these two directions is their completeness. His merciful kindness is directed only to us. That mercy is based upon an everlasting Truth. For He is the everlasting Triune LORD, God, the Almighty.
