Psalm 33:13-19

The LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth,  he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue.  Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine.

All my machinations, all my scheming, all my plotting, all my conniving, all my ... for naught. To fear You, to hope in Your steadfast love; therein lies deliverance, there is life everlasting... You are the mighty King, the great Warrior, the rescuing War Horse. You are the LORD, God Almighty.

Psalm 33 Meditation

October 26, 2010

We can read a Psalm and profit thereby.  We can increase our enjoyment and understanding by reading the Psalm aloud.  However, by combining an oral reading of a Psalm with the skilled interpretation of a skilled audio-visual artist will maximize our enjoyment and understanding.

Jesse Slusher has provided a Meditation on Psalm 33:6-12 for us.  Enjoy!

By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!

There is power in the Word. You spoke and it was. You speak and it is. You will speak and it will be. Heaven and earth, life and being, stars and seas; time past, present and future. What was, what is, what will be. All by the power of Your Word. The breath of Your mouth brings being. It is Truth. Who can stand against it.

Psalm 33:1-5

Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD.

This is the Word of the Lord: it is the definition of righteousness and peace, goodness and love, grace and mercy, hope and joy, forgiveness and restoration, justice and kindness. Your Word is all Goodness brought to Your creation. Praise You and thank You, my Lord and my Master. To You I owe all submission.

Psalm 32:6-11

Therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him. You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you. Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD. Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

Steadfast love does indeed surround me. I am enveloped in Your arms, filled with the oil of gladness, and covered with Your joy. You are a mighty God, a Prince of Peace, a Giver of light and love. Praise to You, my Lord and my Master.

Psalm 119:119
All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross, therefore I love your testimonies.

Your law, Your testimonies, Your precepts, Your statutes, Your Word. All serve as a sieve to separate the good from the evil. As the grain passes through the winnowing sieve and the chaff and straw are left behind, so does Your Word reveal the Good and the Perfect to me. Infallibly and without doubt. I love Your Law.

Psalm 31:19-24

Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind! In the cover of your presence you hide them from the plots of men; you store them in your shelter from the strife of tongues. Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me when I was in a besieged city. I had said in my alarm, "I am cut off from your sight." But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried to you for help. Love the LORD, all you his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride. Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!

Your goodness and mercy follow me all the days of my life. Thank You and praise You, my Lord and Master. You cover me from the plots of the wicked, You bless me with the warmth of Your love. You fill me with hunger for Your presence and with a desire, even a compulsion, to please You. Not a burden to obey, but a love for obedience to Your Word. Thank You, Lord.

Psalm 32:1-2

A Maskil of David. Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

I am blessed -- for my transgressions are forgiven! I am blessed -- for my iniquities no longer can be counted! I am blessed -- for the deceit has been removed from my heart! I am blessed -- for You have removed the heart of stone, You have replaced it with a heart of flesh and written Your Word upon it. I am blessed!

Psalm 32:3-5

For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

Where is it? What is it? I need a Nathan? Have You told me and I have not heard? Have I reasoned and explained it away? Speak to me, my Lord.

Psalm 28:8-9

The LORD is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed. Oh, save your people and bless your heritage! Be their shepherd and carry them forever.

Praise You, my Lord and my Master, You are my strength, my refuge and my shepherd. You do carry me through the Wilderness of Man, You lead me step by step to carry Your message of hope and deliverance into a wilderness of despair and bondage.

Psalm 119:97

Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.

As I meditate on Your law, as I dwell on the beauty of Your word, as I make these the furniture of Your temple, then You manifest Yourself to me, and live with me. Thank You, Lord.
