The Word of God and Material Resources

His Word is sufficient.

Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not broken.

  - John 20.21

This net was performing beyond its capacity because the Lord was causing it to do more than what would normally have been expected of it.

The will of the Lord is stronger than material resources, and He can make that which He provides go further, do more, and last longer than what we normally would suppose. Our duty is to listen to the Word of the Lord and do what He commands.

We cannot do this if we are always determining what we might attempt for the Lord, or what we might expect to accomplish for His Name and Kingdom, by the material resources available to us. The question is not, What can we do with what we have? Rather, the question, What does the Lord command? If we will press on in the doing, He will make our limited resources go further than what we would expect. He will stretch our resources, and strengthen what we have, so that they can outperform expectations and do more work in line with the instructions of the Lord.

We must not make our plans in life or ministry on the basis of what we have, or what we think we might have, in the way of material resources, whether of money, men, or materiel. Ask: What is God calling us to do? Then invest all your available resources in that work, and see how the Lord will make them do more, go further, and achieve more than anyone might expect.

Jesus will fill our every net well beyond its normal capacity, if only we take Him at His Word.
