True Peace Comes from the Lord

A prayer for the third week of Easter.

Psalm 4 ESV

Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have given me relief when I was in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!
O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame? How long will you love vain words and seek after lies?

Selah
But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself; the Lord hears when I call to him.
Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds and be silent.

Selah
Offer right sacrifices and put your trust in the Lord. There are many who say, “Who will show us some good? Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord!”
You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound. In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Holy and Righteous Father, our Protector and Deliverer, our world is full of trouble.

People everywhere are crying out, “Is there any hope? Is there any good anywhere in this world?” Show us the good that comes from you, we pray. Shine the light of your face and grace on this broken world, O Lord!

You are the God who never fails to answer your children when they call to you. In trials and uncertainties, when our hope is gone, even then we can know that you hear our cries for help.

Help us, O Lord, not to live by reaction to trouble, but rather by retreat to a place and time of prayer. Keep us mindful, O Father, that committing our welfare to you in prayer brings greater joy than the world can give, because true peace and safety come from you alone.

Shine the light of your face and grace upon us, O Lord, as we put our hope and trust in you. Amen.
