Mind, Thought, Action

There will be no Christian mind without training.

The Christian Mind

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know
them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?”But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2.14-16

The Christian Mind
Harry Blamires (1916-)
“There is something before the achievement of a Christian line – and that is a Christian dialogue in which a given issue can be explored and known by the thinking Church. And even that is not the beginning. For there is something before the Christian dialogue, and that is the Christian mind – a mind trained, informed, equipped to handle data of secular controversy within a framework of reference which is constructed of Christian presuppositions. The Christian mind is the prerequisite of Christian thinking. And Christian thinking is the prerequisite of Christian action.”

We have the mind of Christ, but we will not use that mind without training, encouragement, and the example of faithful teachers to guide us. If we want to see more Christian action in the world, reaching out with grace and truth to people in our everyday lives, we’ll need to think more pointedly about the forms such action might take, and we’ll need to teach and train people to use the mind of Christ in their everyday lives to advance the cause and Kingdom of Christ with their words and deeds. Christian training must aim at Christian action on the ground, in the everyday Christian lives of the followers of Christ. We are foolish if we refuse to submit to the kind of training that can equip us for such a lived witness for Christ. And we are wicked stewards if we fail to teach, train, guide, encourage, and assist God’s people to carry the Christian line by their Christian lives into every area of human life and interest.

Do the training efforts of your church consistently equip people with the mind of Christ, so they can think like Christ, and act like Jesus in their everyday lives?

Training for Christian Action
Our Missions Partner Outreach program is designed as a life-based training curriculum, to help church members identify and begin working their Personal Mission Fields for the purpose of making disciples and advancing Christ’s Kingdom. I’m looking for some men to lead through this training program, and to help you see how our Missions Outreach Partners programcan help your church overcome its failure to communicate.
