No Small Stuff

In the Christian worldview, everything matters.

The Christian Mind

Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10.31

The Christian Mind
Harry Blamires (1916-)
“To think secularly is to think within a frame of reference bounded by the limits of our life on earth: it is to keep one’s calculations within this-worldly criteria. To think christianly is to accept all things with the mind as related, directly or indirectly, to man’s eternal destiny as the redeemed and chosen child of God…There is nothing in our experience, however trivial, worldly, or even evil, which cannot be thought about christianly.”

This only makes sense, doesn’t it? If God considers that all the everyday details of life – matters great and small, aspects of culture, work, relationships, and all the rest – if God is of the mind that these things can be regarded, pursued, and accomplished in such a way as to glorify Him, then ought not we also think about such things in a similar manner? We cannot act for the glory of God in any arena until we are first thinking about how His glory might refract through us, and making plans to glorify Him whatever we do. Nothing in our lives is so small or insignificant that we ought to think it irrelevant to the cause for which Christ died. But learning to think this way does not come naturally, and it does not come easily. It comes with work, and work begins with a decision: Will we or will we not work to use the mind of Christ we possess, for the Kingdom and glory of Christ to which we are called?

What obstacles stand in the way of Christians beginning to use the mind of Christ they possess? How are you working to overcome those obstacles in your own life?
