2 Timothy 4:14-17

October 20, 2014

Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds. Beware of him yourself, for he strongly opposed our message. At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion's mouth.

Lord, as You stood by Paul through all manner of trials from opposition by a pagan to desertion by friends, so You will stand with me. However, as with Paul, I must be single-minded in my determination to present the Gospel. Keep me focused, Lord.

October 19, 2014

I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules.

Lord, that my praise of you would be the work of my hands, the path of my feet, and the words of my mouth. That the very essence of me would be You. Guide me, Lord, in a Kingdom life.

The heavens are the LORD's heavens, but the earth he has given to the children of man. The dead do not praise the LORD, nor do any who go down into silence. But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and forevermore. Praise the LORD!

The earth is ours, Your people's, Your Church to use according to Your will. Not to abuse and misuse but to tend and care for with utmost reverence and respect. We are Your Ambassadors of Reconciliation, called to implement Shalom and carry the Gospel of Repentance and Forgiveness to all nations and peoples.

Psalm 115:12-15

October 17, 2014

The LORD has remembered us; he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron; he will bless those who fear the LORD, both the small and the great. May the LORD give you increase, you and your children! May you be blessed by the LORD, who made heaven and earth!

Lord, there's that key verb again, 'to fear.' What is it to fear You? Not to be terrified, but to regard with feelings of respect and reverence; consider hallowed or exalted or be in awe of. Terror has been removed and replaced with an awareness of Your Love for Your Creation. Hallelujah!

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 115:135

Mid-day: 119:41-48

Evening: Psalm 60

Psalm 115:9-11

October 16, 2014

O Israel, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield. You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield.

Another three step progression. 1st I must understand what it is to fear You for I cannot know what I do not comprehend. 2nd is the development of trust in You, in Your Goodness, in the completeness of Your promises to me, in the knowing that You will never leave me nor forsake me. 3rd is Shalom that invades my very being, that stands as Your help and shield between me and the Evil One.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 134

Mid-day: 119:33-40

Evening: Psalm 59

Voices Together is available as an annual daily devotional and can be purchased at the Fellowship Of Ailbe bookstore.

Psalm 115:4-8

October 15, 2014

Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see. They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell. They have hands, but do not feel; feet, but do not walk; and they do not make a sound in their throat. Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them.

Lord, I pray for Your Church, that we will not be sucked into the world's constructed idols. These idols take strange and unexpected forms, so subtle and attractive. An article in today's local paper, regarding a family who has chosen to pursue a child's sports career even though it has totally separated them from the Church, breaks my heart. It brings to mind our family's devotion to family activities that took Your place when our children were younger; we are paying the price today. Forgive us, Lord, we have sinned against You. Bring our children and grandchildren to know and love You.

Psalm 115:1-3

October 14, 2014

Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.

To God be the glory, great things He hath done.” “Yea, though I walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, I will fear no evil for Thou art with me, Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.”

1 John 5:14-15

October 13, 2014

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

Let's see if I have this straight, Lord. You hear me when I ask according to Your will. And whatever You hear, You grant, How do I know I am asking according to Your will? By renewing of my mind (Rom. 12:2 and ! Cor. 2:13-16) Hallelujah!

October 12, 2014

Let your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts.

Yes, I have chosen Your precepts as the guiding lights for my life but I need the help of the Holy Spirit to apply these precepts properly. Assist me in the interpretation and in the application.

Psalm 114:3-8

October 11, 2014

The sea looked and fled; Jordan turned back. The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs. What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back? O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs? Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water.

Blessings, Lord, blessings upon blessings. The blessing of salvation, of being drawn into Your family as a child of God's. The blessing of laboring in one of Your vineyards among men and women who have been gathered likewise. The blessing of a helpmate who is one with me in You. The blessing of the gift of prayer for family, friends and strangers. Blessings upon blessings upon blessings. Praise You, my Lord and Master.

Psalm114:1-2

October 10, 2014

When Israel went out from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language, Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion.

You sent Your Spirit to remind me of all that You taught, to lead me into all truth, and to direct me in the work You set aside for me before the beginning of time. Go and make disciples! Or as I have heard this phrase translated, “Make disciples as you go.” May every aspect of my life, every activity, every word and deed be directed to making disciples.

Morning: Psalm 128

Mid-day: 119:151-168

Evening: Psalm 53

Matthew 28:18-20

October 09, 2014

And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

Go and make disciples! Go and make disciples! Go and make disciples! Go and make disciples! How many times do You need to tell me to go and make disciples? You said all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to You. Therefore You issued a command, “Go and make disciples.” Teach them to observe all that You commanded. Go and make disciples!

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 127

Mid-day: 119:153-160

Evening: Psalm 52
