Psalm 119:139

September 14, 2014

My zeal consumes me, because my foes forget your words.

Yes, Lord, frequently my zeal consumes me and I do not speak with compassion, gentleness and respect. Teach me, Lord, according to Your word and lead me in Your righteousness.

Hebrews 12:3-13

September 13, 2014

Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives." It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.

Lord, when I hear of entire villages being decimated, wiped out, slaughtered for their faith and then read of a proposed Religious Freedom Summit in NYC in October, I find my stomach churning in disgust and shame. How can Christians in America have the hubris to protest that our freedoms are being curtailed when our brothers and sisters throughout the 10-40 Window are being unimaginably persecuted?

Our faith is weak and flabby, we are cowards. Discipline us for you love us. Heal our faith, Lord Jesus.

Psalm 108:10-13

September 12, 2014

Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom? Have you not rejected us, O God? You do not go out, O God, with our armies. Oh grant us help against the foe, for vain is the salvation of man! With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.

Lord, lead Your Church out in battle, not armed with the weapons of man but equipped with Your full armor. Fill us with the boldness to declare the Good News without fear and timidity; bring our lives into conformity to Your Word; saturate us with Your love and peace; equip us with the sound judgment to know exactly how to approach every opportunity; use us unsparingly to advance Your Kingdom in the here and now.

September 09, 2014

A Song. A Psalm of David. My heart is steadfast, O God! I will sing and make melody with all my being! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn! I will give thanks to you, O LORD, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is great above the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

Step 1 In preaching the Gospel must be a hymn of praise to the Lord. My life and every aspect of it must be a paean of praise to You. There must be nothing in my life that brings dishonor to Your Name. Guide me, Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 9:16

September 08, 2014

For if I preach the gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting. For necessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward, but if not of my own will, I am still entrusted with a stewardship.

I and each member of Your Church is entrusted with the necessity to preach the Gospel. It is not something that we can choose to do or not do—it is something we must do. The Great Commandment is not the Great Suggestion.

I MUST PREACH THE GOSPEL

I love You, my Lord and Master.

Psalm 107:33-43

September 06, 2014

Psalm 107:33-43

He turns rivers into a desert, springs of water into thirsty ground, a fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the evil of its inhabitants. He turns a desert into pools of water, a parched land into springs of water. And there he lets the hungry dwell, and they establish a city to live in; they sow fields and plant vineyards and get a fruitful yield. By his blessing they multiply greatly, and he does not let their livestock diminish. When they are diminished and brought low through oppression, evil, and sorrow, (40) he pours contempt on princes and makes them wander in trackless wastes; but he raises up the needy out of affliction and makes their families like flocks. The upright see it and are glad, and all wickedness shuts its mouth. Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the LORD.

You are the very definition of Justice, Righteousness, Peace and Mercy. You are the Great Provider, the Healer, the Creator, the I Am. You are the Source of All Good, the One Who is Manifest in All Creation, the One Who Spoke All into Existence. You are the LORD, God Almighty and my Father. Praise You for your steadfast love.

Psalm 107:23-32

September 05, 2014

Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the great waters; they saw the deeds of the LORD, his wondrous works in the deep. For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea. They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths; their courage melted away in their evil plight; hey reeled and staggered like drunken men and were at their wits' end. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven. Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! Let them extol him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.

A young family, dear to Betty and me, is going through a period of turmoil. We are crying to You for healing and relief from their distress. May wounds be healed, may broken relationships be restored, may all involved turn to You in praise and thanksgiving.

Psalm 107:17-22

September 04, 2014

Some were fools through their sinful ways, and because of their iniquities suffered affliction; they loathed any kind of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his deeds in songs of joy!

How close to death do my 'other gods' have to carry me before I cry out to You in my troubles? How often do I minister to those who love their 'other gods' and are not willing to part from them? Heal us, Lord, and bring us into a state of thanksgiving and praise.

Psalm 107:10-16

September 03, 2014

Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and in irons, for they had rebelled against the words of God, and spurned the counsel of the Most High. So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor; they fell down, with none to help. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart. Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! For he shatters the doors of bronze and cuts in two the bars of iron.

Lord. My prayer is for those in my family who do not acknowledge You as Lord and Master. Lord, that they would cry to You in their trouble and distress; bring them up out of darkness and burst their bonds. Let their mouths be filled with Your praises and be forever walking in the Kingdom.
