Psalm 104:5-9

July 28, 2014

He set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be moved. You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. At your rebuke they fled; at the sound of your thunder they took to flight. The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place that you appointed for them. You set a boundary that they may not pass, so that they might not again cover the earth.

Lord, all in its appointed place as You set the earth in its orbit and separated land from waters. Each laid out as You intended, so that there would be appropriate habitation for the creatures You had planned. Nothing left to chance, all according to the divine Plan.

Psalm 104:3-4

July 26, 2014

He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters; he makes the clouds his chariot; he rides on the wings of the wind; he makes his messengers winds, his ministers a flaming fire.

The picture begins to take shape and substance as the Psalmist leads me into an appreciation of the royal spectacle. You whose garments are light, whose residence is the heavens with its foundation upon the clouds, whose royal carriage is the clouds powered by the wind, whose royal attendants are winds and fire. No earthly head of state can be so described—no petty tyrant or the most powerful individual alive today.

O, that I would have the eyes of my heart opened to truly see You as You are.

Psalm 104:1-2

July 25, 2014

Bless the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty, covering yourself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent.

What will it be like, Lord, to finally see You in all Your splendor?. Modern man lives a life of vicarious pleasure, our experience of the awesome is defined by a public spectacle on TV, we live lives shielded from the elements by our snug little houses. Lord, open my eyes that I may see, experience and anticipate Your beauty and splendor.

Ephesians 3:14-21

July 24, 2014

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

What catches my eye, Lord, is that second phrase. I carry your family name. Hallelujah! Just as my earthly name identifies me with a certain heritage and related to a particular set of people; those characteristics and other clues indicate to others that I will live my life according to a certain pattern. In the same fashion, my family name, Christian, identifies me with a particular set of people and should tell others that I will live my life according to a certain pattern. Here is where the power that is at work within me enters in. To You be the glory through all generations.

Psalm 103:22b

July 23, 2014

Bless the LORD, O my soul!

Every breath, every instance of my life should be, must be an expression of praise. No thought should proceed without blessing the Lord at beginning and end. I know what should and could be; guide me, Holy Spirit, into that glorious reality.

Psalm 103:20-22a

July 22, 2014

Bless the LORD, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, obeying the voice of his word! Bless the LORD, all his hosts, his ministers, who do his will! Bless the LORD, all his works, in all places of his dominion.

All creation is commanded to obey and bless You, even Your works. All creation declares the handiwork of the LORD God the Almighty. Sometimes I have great difficulty in seeing that declaration or hearing the angelic choir announcing His Supremacy. But the problem is mine, my sin dimmed eyes and impaired hearing. Heal me, Lord

Psalm 103:19

July 21, 2014

The LORD has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.

I have trouble grasping the enormity of that little three letter word ‘all’; that ‘all’ really means all.. Oh, I have no trouble consigning the operation of the Creation to Him, of agreeing that the course of someones life is in His hands. No, the problem is releasing my life, my will, my control to Him. Will I ever learn and concede my will to His?

Psalm 119:74, 79

July 20, 2014

Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice, because I have hoped in your word. Let those who fear you turn to me, that they may know your testimonies.

Let the hope that lies within me be evident to all. Let that hope bring joy to those who love and honor you and bring understanding to those who seek you. Let that hope be evidence of Your righteousness through the testimony of my life in You.

Psalm 103:15-18

July 19, 2014

As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children's children, to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments.

How can I put it better than the Apostle John when he wrote, “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (‭1 John‬ ‭5‬:‭1-5‬ ESV)

Blessing heaped upon blessing.

Mid-day: 119:25-32

Evening: Psalm 120

Psalm 103:11-14

July 18, 2014

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.

Now as David strives to describe the incredible munificence of the Almighty towards those whom He loves, human language is not up to the task, whether it be Hebrew or English. How can a finite creature, circumscribed by time and space, describe or comprehend the Infinite? Dust, just dust, from whence I came, to which I shall return.

Psalm 103:9-10

July 17, 2014

He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.

David continues in this masterpiece of understatement as he and I both acknowledge that the Lord has not, does not, and will not repay us according to our sins.
