Psalm 106:19-23

August 21, 2014

They made a calf in Horeb and worshiped a metal image. They exchanged the glory of God for the image of an ox that eats grass. They forgot God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt, wondrous works in the land of Ham, and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.Therefore he said he would destroy them— had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to turn away his wrath from destroying them.

“You shall have no other gods before Me” Yet more and more we look to the government to supply our needs: SSA, Medicare, SSI, unemployment benefits, and the list goes on. We have abdicated the church's responsibility to care for the poor and sick among us. We allow the massive entertainment industry to amuse us and help us while away our idle hours by providing mindless amusement and satisfying our lusts.

Psalm 106:13-18

August 20, 2014

But they soon forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel. But they had a wanton craving in the wilderness, and put God to the test in the desert; he gave them what they asked, but sent a wasting disease among them. When men in the camp were jealous of Moses and Aaron, the holy one of the LORD, the earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram. Fire also broke out in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.

We lust after the world's treasures, we chase after the latest trapping of fashion and material things, we are not content with the way You have supplied our earthly needs. We seek power and authority, fame and recognition by men. We forget that we are to lay up treasure in Heaven where moths do not destroy or rust decay. Forgive us, Lord and lead us out of this wilderness.

Psalm 106:8-12

August 19, 2014

Yet he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make known his mighty power. He rebuked the Red Sea, and it became dry, and he led them through the deep as through a desert. So he saved them from the hand of the foe and redeemed them from the power of the enemy. And the waters covered their adversaries; not one of them was left. Then they believed his words; they sang his praise.

Yet in spite of our disobedience, in spite of our foolish attempts to blend into the culture, You call us back to You,time after time. You allow the hornets to sting and remind us to follow You, You discipline Your people to guide and mature them into a rich chorus of praise to You and a people to glorify Your name.

Psalm 106:6-7

August 18, 2014

Both we and our fathers have sinned; we have committed iniquity; we have done wickedness. Our fathers, when they were in Egypt, did not consider your wondrous works; they did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love, but rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.

Lord, we turn away from You, we do not set first priority upon seeking Your Kingdom and Your righteousness. Sometimes we feel that we have given You sufficient attention with a couple of hours on Sunday morning, not recognizing that You tell us to observe the Lord's Day and set it aside for You. Our priorities during the week are defined by job, family and recreation. Where are You in our hectic lives?

Psalm 119:106

August 17, 2014

I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep your righteous rules.

I have sworn an oath—I have made an unbreakable and irrevocable commitment which I can disobey but never eliminate. It exists as long as I exist.

I have confirmed it—I have publicly announced my covenant with the LORD God, Almighty, by accepting the sacrament of baptism.

The oath is to use those righteous rules, the Law and the Word of God as the tertium quid for my life. All aspects of my life must conform to Your Word.

Psalm 106:4-5

August 16, 2014

Remember me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people; help me when you save them, that I may look upon the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation, that I may glory with your inheritance.

Lord, that I would continue to grow, to be transformed for one degree of glory to another, that every moment of my life would bring me closer to You and serve to reflect Your Glory. Let not sin and disobedience be a veil that hides Your Glory and the transformation that You have worked and are working in me.

August 15, 2014

Praise the LORD! Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Who can utter the mighty deeds of the LORD, or declare all his praise? Blessed are they who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times!

The most mighty work—to defeat death and restore all creation to Shalom. There is no greater, nothing that exceeds this; all other manifestations of the might of the Almighty point to this. Praise Your Holy Name.

James 5:7-8

August 14, 2014

Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

Lord, lead me to live today as if it is the last day before Your return, waiting patiently for Your call to Your own to join You in Glory. Lead me to regard tomorrow as 'one day closer' and as another opportunity to declare the Good News in word and deed.

August 13, 2014

For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham, his servant. So he brought his people out with joy, his chosen ones with singing. And he gave them the lands of the nations, and they took possession of the fruit of the peoples' toil, that they might keep his statutes and observe his laws. Praise the LORD!

Our inheritance—to know You and enjoy Your company forever. You have called a people for Your very own and sent the Holy Spirit as the guarantor of that estate.

Psalm 105:39-41

August 12, 2014

He spread a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light by night. They asked, and he brought quail, and gave them bread from heaven in abundance. He opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed through the desert like a river.

Israel received covering and light, food, bread and water, garments and sandals—all their earthly needs. Likewise You provide Your people today with all their spiritual needs. Peace and comfort, shelter from the onslaughts of the Evil One, spiritual manna to nourish our souls and courage to live as a called-out people.

Psalm105:26-38

August 11, 2014

He sent Moses, his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen. They performed his signs among them and miracles in the land of Ham. He sent darkness, and made the land dark; they did not rebel against his words. He turned their waters into blood and caused their fish to die. Their land swarmed with frogs, even in the chambers of their kings. He spoke, and there came swarms of flies, and gnats throughout their country. He gave them hail for rain, and fiery lightning bolts through their land. He struck down their vines and fig trees, and shattered the trees of their country. He spoke, and the locusts came, young locusts without number, which devoured all the vegetation in their land and ate up the fruit of their ground. He struck down all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their strength. Then he brought out Israel with silver and gold, and there was none among his tribes who stumbled. Egypt was glad when they departed, for dread of them had fallen upon it.

Mighty works to free Israel from Pharaoh's grip, but a far mightier work to free Your Church, Your Bride from Satan's grip. Not the sacrifice of Egypt's wealth and the destruction of their livestock and crops, but the ultimate sacrifice of the Lamb of God.

I'm not there Lord for you have blessed me with teachers whose way of life is shaped by Your Word and Your Law. You use them to give me understanding and wisdom. Thank You, Lord. Bless them and grant them complete peace and the joy of the Kingdom in every aspect of their lives.
