Walking Points
Three Anchors of Hope There are times in our lives when our most deeply held values and beliefs are tested with fire. This is God’s refining (or pruning) process. With it comes genuine pain, heartache, and difficulty. Yet, ideally, the person who comes out the other side is closer to…
Character Then Influence In his commentary on the Sermon on the Mount, John Stott reminds his readers that if Matthew 5:3-12 (the Beatitudes) is about a Christian’s character, then Matthew 5:13-16 is about a Christian’s influence in this world. I have always loved the words of Matthew 5:13-16, which describe…
Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your task. (Phillips Brooks)
Romans 16:17-19 - I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By…
Galatians 4:9 – But now that you know God–or rather are known by God–how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?
A Little Help for a Friend A friend once asked me to suggest a good book or two on prayer. I decided it might be worth a blog post with a few thoughts on the subject sprinkled throughout.

Psalm 37:7 - Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

A Christmas Baby On a Christmas day, 54 years ago, I was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. Two nuns cleaned me up and brought me to my mom and dad in a Christmas stocking.
This Advent season I am writing a prayer each day, based on the Scripture for that particular day.

Advent Prayers

December 5, 2019
This Advent season I am writing a prayer each day, based on the Scripture for that particular day.
Here's the result of a new discipline I'm trying to get into before Advent is upon us. I'm planning on having something similar to this each day throughout the Advent season. Check it out. I pray the Lord will bless you with it.
Luke 18:9-14 Ping Pong Champ I was quite the ping pong player when I was in high school. I was really good. I held many tournaments in my garage, most of which I won. You would have been impressed with my ping pong prowess. I certainly was.
I spent the first half of my life petrified at the thought of having to speak in front of other people.
In my reading over the years I’ve been often reminded of how important one-to-one ministry really is.
