A Prophet like Moses?

Moses was the first to be entrusted with divine revelation, but not the last.

Moses was the first in a tradition of prophets who, culminating in the Lord Jesus Christ, were God's chosen vessels for making His will and salvation known (Deut. 18.15 ff.).

That tradition ran throughout the Old Testament, climaxed in the Lord Jesus, was extended by Him through the Apostles, and has been carried on by faithful ministers of the Word of God throughout Church history. Moreover, in this age of the Spirit, all God's people are called to serve a prophetic role in their own spheres, ministering the Word of God faithfully to the people around them (Acts 2.16-18).

But are we, especially we to whom the ministry of the Word has been entrusted as our calling in life, truly prophets like Moses? How can we know?

Do we have a compelling, undeniable sense of calling to this work, as Moses did?

Like Moses, are we familiar with the Lord, through long seasons spent conversing with Him and basking in His glory?

Does the glory of God show in and through us as it did in Moses, thus demonstrating to the people both that we have been with the Lord and the Lord favors us with His glory?

Are we versed in all the counsel of God and faithful in proclaiming it?

Like Moses (Ex. 18), are we competent to interpret the Word into even the most difficult facets of life, and to equip others to do the same?

And, like Moses, are we steadfast in obeying all the Word of God and repentant when not (Ps. 99)?

Pray that God will raise up more prophets like Moses - and like Jesus, Paul, and the others in that glorious tradition. This is the great need of the Church today.
