Lord, it has not been through my works and strivings that I am fit to stand in Your presence, but through the cleansing power of Your blood shed for me on Calvary. It is Your Holy Spirit that leads me into righteousness and guides me in that work prepared for me from before the beginning of the world. All that I am is from You and for You.

Your faithfulness never ceases, and You have given me a symbol of that endurance, the permanency of the earth, yea even the universe to remind me continuously that Your faithfulness will never pass away. As I know that the sun rises in the east each morning and sets each evening in the west, I know that Your Kingdom surrounds me on every side and provides a full measure of Your faithful love and grace to me each day.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Lord, that turmoil and filth around me certainly erupted yesterday as we suddenly found ourselves immersed in the tragedy of life without you. A young woman and child, victims of serious abuse, brought to us for protection and nurture. O, Lord, that we can be the conduits of Your love, bringing mother and child to know and love You. I also pray for their abuser, a broken and hurting man, that he will find You and the peace that comes only through You. My prayer is that this family will be reconciled to You and find that peace, the peace of this passage.

How precious and comforting that You spoke of me, recognizing Your plan for me, that I should be brought into Your flock in the fullness of time. One flock, one Shepherd--the foreshadowing of the one Lord, one Body, One Spirit, one Baptism yet to come.
