Books by John Nunnikhoven

For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes. For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us,

Yes, You have anointed me to proclaim freedom to the captives. Not just the inmates of the SSCF but to all who are enslaved by sin and separation from You. That proclamation must be based on the evidence of my transformation, and visible evidence of the Power working in and through me. In other words, Your glory must shine in my life.

Lord, You are a refuge of peace and serenity in a maelstrom of confusion, tension, anger, greed, and hatred. A Song of Ascents. Of David. O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me.

Help me, Lord, to avoid being overwhelmed by issues that are beyond my ken or outside my area of responsibility. Help me to revel in the simple expressions of Your love and Your grace to me. Help me to carry that story to all other in simple and clear words and concepts.

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

A way of a purposeful life. A life devoted to glorifying God the Father, lived in response to the sacrifice of God the Son and guided by God the Spirit.

Walk carefully and wisely

Use my time efficiently.

Avoid foolishment

Seek to understand the will of the Lord for my life

Don't seek happiness through worldly things

Recognize the Spirit within me

Let my joy be seen and heard by others

Be thankful in all things

Serve others as an expression of my reverence and gratitude for the work of Christ Jesus.

For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption. And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Hebrews 4:14-16

March 03, 2012

Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

You, my Great High Priest, the who presented the atonement for my sins before the Throne of God, are the One who walks with me constantly. You, at my side, to lead and guide me through the challenges of life; You providing a constant flow of mercy and grace to me, one who is weak and helpless in the attacks of the Evil One; You who are the Word made flesh and dwelling among us. May Your Name be praised.

Psalm 129:5-8

March 02, 2012

May all who hate Zion be put to shame and turned backward! Let them be like the grass on the housetops, which withers before it grows up, with which the reaper does not fill his hand nor the binder of sheaves his arms, nor do those who pass by say, "The blessing of the LORD be upon you! We bless you in the name of the LORD!"

Lord, move against the those forces of the Evil One who seek to destroy Your Church and divert it from its calling. Give us strength and wisdom to withstand, Let us rejoice in the face of persecution, trials and temptations. Keep us from participating in their sin.

March 01, 2012

A Song of Ascents. "Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth"-- let Israel now say-- "Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth, yet they have not prevailed against me. The plowers plowed upon my back; they made long their furrows." The LORD is righteous; he has cut the cords of the wicked.

Thank You, Lord, for Your faithful remnant, thank You for those who have not bowed the knee to Baal. Praise You, for You have stood with the flaming sword of Your righteousness between Your flock and the Evil One. Keep us and send us out to carry the message of repentance and transformation into the enemy camp.

Ephesians 6:13

February 29, 2012

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

Lord, Your Church faces persecution in many subtle forms in this country, but without recognizing that their faith is being assaulted. The incessant din of advertising, pitching the attractions of materialism and lust, envy and greed, pride and covetous, self-will and choice, … are the sly tools of the Evil One to turn us away from obedience to the One True God. Satan does not need to threaten the stake to spoil our witness, just dangle the lure of power before our eyes and we become another captive of the amalgamation of Church and State, Christendom.

When will we learn that our only defense is the Armor of God, in its entirety, utilized according to the Word and without modification by us?

Psalm 128:2-6

February 28, 2012

You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD. The LORD bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life! May you see your children's children! Peace be upon Israel!

Lord, Your blessings do flow continuously in a rich and bountiful stream. I am surrounded! The problem is that I am oblivious to much of it, accepting these gifts as a matter of course. How can I become more sensitive to these outpourings of Your love for me? By paying heed to every word that proceeds from Your mouth!
