Psalm 137:1-3

April 03, 2012

By the waters of Babylon, there we sat down and wept, when we remembered Zion. On the willows there we hung up our lyres. For there our captors required of us songs, and our tormentors, mirth, saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"

Lord, we, Your Church, Your Bride, have turned our backs on Your Word and sought other gods. We have adopted the secular humanism of the world around us and accepted the false promises of happiness through materialism and sexual licentiousness. Our testimony is weak and blunted, we are a joke to the culture, we have lost the right to announce, “Thus saith the Lord.” How can we sing the songs of Zion? Continue to chastise us, continue to wreak havoc upon the Church until we return to You.

Revelation 6:15-17

April 02, 2012

Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, calling to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?"

Lord, You are coming as a thief in the night but with power and vengeance to rip Your Kingdom from the hands of the Evil One. It will not be the Gentle Jesus, but the LORD God Almighty rescuing His Own People and Creation from the wreckage of sin and evil.

Psalm 119:19

April 01, 2012
I am a sojourner on the earth; hide not your commandments from me!

Help us to remember that our citizenship is not here but is in the Kingdom and that we therefore are constrained by the Laws of the Kingdom of God. We are to follow them with all our hearts, mind, soul and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves.

Psalm 136:23-26

March 31, 2012
It is he who remembered us in our low estate, for his steadfast love endures forever; and rescued us from our foes, for his steadfast love endures forever; he who gives food to all flesh, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Lord, we spoke of that providential care last night in the prison as we discussed giving thanks in all circumstances. Your hand is over us, protecting us from far greater hurt than we recognize or even stop to examine for its existence. In many cases it is protecting us from ourselves and an eruption of the fleshly nature. Thank You for Your goodness to the children of men.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Psalm 136:10-22

March 30, 2012
[T]o him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, for his steadfast love endures forever; and brought Israel out from among them, for his steadfast love endures forever; with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who divided the Red Sea in two, for his steadfast love endures forever; and made Israel pass through the midst of it, for his steadfast love endures forever; but overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who led his people through the wilderness, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who struck down great kings, for his steadfast love endures forever; and killed mighty kings, for his steadfast love endures forever; Sihon, king of the Amorites, for his steadfast love endures forever; and Og, king of Bashan, for his steadfast love endures forever; and gave their land as a heritage, for his steadfast love endures forever; a heritage to Israel his servant, for his steadfast love endures forever.

You, the LORD God Almighty, determined that You would redeem Your creation, that You would “buy it back” without regard to the cost. You sent Your Son, the Word, to become flesh and live among us, and then to become the Perfect Sacrifice for our sin. You elevated Him to Your right hand to rule over all things and to draw Your chosen into Your Kingdom. Praise You, the LORD God Almighty.

Psalm 136:1-9

March 29, 2012
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who alone does great wonders, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who by understanding made the heavens, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who spread out the earth above the waters, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who made the great lights, for his steadfast love endures forever; the sun to rule over the day, for his steadfast love endures forever; the moon and stars to rule over the night, for his steadfast love endures forever;

Your steadfast love endures forever and is manifest in all of creation. I must be reminded of that truth every time the sun rises or the winds blow. Every time a leaf falls or a bird sings. Whenever the rivers run or a flower blooms. The stars in the skies, the flash of the firefly. The great expanse of the mountains around me and the scurrying ant storing food. All speak of Your steadfast love that endures forever.

Revelation 1:8-11

March 28, 2012

And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!" (9) And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, (10) the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, (11) "Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created."

Holy are You, LORD God Almighty, You are Perfection, You are Light, You are Love, You are Creativity, You are Joy, You are Peace, You are Forgiveness, You are Justice, You are Righteousness, You are Hope, You are the Good and the Complete. You are my LORD.

Psalm 135:19-21

March 27, 2012
O house of Israel, bless the LORD! O house of Aaron, bless the LORD! O house of Levi, bless the LORD! You who fear the LORD, bless the LORD! Blessed be the LORD from Zion, he who dwells in Jerusalem! Praise the LORD!

Lord, bring Your people to a state and condition of continuous blessing and praise. That Your praises would be ever on our lips; that we would never cease from pouring out blessings to Your name; that our thanksgivings would rise to the heavens in an unending stream of incense to You; that our lives would bring glory and honor to You; that we would exalt the works of Your hands; and carry the evidence of Your grace and mercy to all the nations.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 94

Mid-day: 119:137-144

Evening: Psalm 20

Psalm135:15-18

March 26, 2012
The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of human hands. (16) They have mouths, but do not speak; they have eyes, but do not see; (17) they have ears, but do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths. (18) Those who make them become like them, so do all who trust in them!

The gods of this world offer a false allure of happiness and success; a cheap plating of glitter but rapidly corroding and pealing revealing the falsehood. Protect me, give me the discernment that can only come from You so that I can distinguish between good and evil. Be my North Star, always true and always available.

Psalm 119:9-11

March 25, 2012
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.  With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!  I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

The first step, Lord, to store up Your word in my heart. The second step is when the Holy Spirit recalls those words from memory to mind and conscience. The third step is when I choose to listen and respond in obedience.

Psalm 135:8-14

March 24, 2012
He it was who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and of beast; who in your midst, O Egypt, sent signs and wonders against Pharaoh and all his servants; who struck down many nations and killed mighty kings, Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan, and gave their land as a heritage, a heritage to his people Israel. Your name, O LORD, endures forever, your renown, O LORD, throughout all ages. For the LORD will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants.

Lord, where is the great evil that has erupted in my family? Is this a sin of the father being visited upon the children? If so, Lord, open my heart and transform me, help me to see the motes in my eyes and cast them out.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 91

Mid-day: 119:113-120

Evening: Psalm 17

Psalm 135:1-7

March 23, 2012
Praise the LORD! Praise the name of the LORD, give praise, O servants of the LORD, who stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God! Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing to his name, for it is pleasant! For the LORD has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel as his own possession. For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods. Whatever the LORD pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps. He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth, who makes lightnings for the rain and brings forth the wind from his storehouses.

Lord, I pray for all of Your chosen people, all those who swear fealty to You, that they would be faithful Ambassadors of Reconciliation, lifting Your name up in word and deed, faithfully pursuing those tasks that You have set before them, taking up their crosses to be Your servants in all things, in all places and at all times.
