The Law of God for Daily Meditation

Morning Meditation

Deuteronomy 17.14-20
14 “When you come to the land which the LORDyour God is giving you, and possess it and dwell in it, and say, ‘I will set a king over me like all the nations that arearound me,’ 15 you shall surely set a king over you whom the LORDyour God chooses; onefrom among your brethren you shall set as king over you; you may not set a foreigner over you, who isnot your brother. 16 But he shall not multiply horses for himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt to multiply horses, for the LORDhas said to you, ‘You shall not return that way again.’ 17 Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away; nor shall he greatly multiply silver and gold for himself. 18 Also it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book, from the onebefore the priests, the Levites. 19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORDhis God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes, 20 that his heart may not be lifted above his brethren, that he may not turn aside from the commandment tothe right hand or tothe left, and that he may prolong hisdays in his kingdom, he and his children in the midst of Israel.”

Deuteronomy 25.1-3

1 “If there is a dispute between men, and they come to court, that the judges may judge them, and they justify the righteous and condemning the wicked, 2 then it shall be, if the wicked man deserves to be beaten, that the judge will cause him to lie down and be beaten in his presence, according to his guilt, with a certain number of blows. 3 Forty blows he may give him andno more, lest he should exceed this and beat him with many blows above these, and your brother be humiliated in your sight.”

Deuteronomy 18.15-20

15 “The LORDyour God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear, 16according too all you desired of the LORDyour God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the LORDmy God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’ 17 And the LORDsaid to me, ‘What they have spoken is good. 18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. 19 And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words which He speaks in My name, I will require itof him. 20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’”

The Old Paths

September 09, 2015

The old paths, God says, are the best.

Hemlocks, stories, atheism, preaching, and criticism.

Eyes on Jesus

September 20, 2015

1 Peter 3.18-22

18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit 19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. 21 There is also an antitype which now saves us – baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God”, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.

Lived Hope

September 19, 2015

1 Peter 3.15-17

15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always beready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 16having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. 17For it isbetter, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

Zealous for Good?

September 18, 2015

1 Peter 3.10-14

10For
“He who would love life
And see good days,
Let him refrain his tongue from evil,
And his lips from speaking deceit.

11Let him turn away from evil and do good;
Let him seek peace and pursue it.

12For the eyes of the LORDare on the righteous,
And His ears are open to their prayers;
But the face of the L
ORDis against those who do evil.”
13And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? 14But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.”

Called to This

September 17, 2015

1 Peter 3.8, 9

8 Finally, all of youbeof one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, betenderhearted, be courteous, 9not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

Show Honor

September 16, 2015

1 Peter 3.7

7Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as beingheirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

Proper Adornment

September 15, 2015

1 Peter 3.3-6

3Do not let your adornment be merely outward – arranging the hair, wearing of gold, or putting on fine apparel – 4rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beautyof a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in God’s sight. 5For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their husbands, 6as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.
