Romans 6:22-23

March 21, 2013

But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

No longer a slave to sin, but a slave to righteousness. A slavery that leads to a transformed life, a new life in Your image. A slavery that leads to an eternity in Your presence. A slavery into a life of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. This is joy divine, joy everlasting, the joy of a fulfilled life. Praise You, my Lord and Saviour.

March 20, 2013

The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; he is their stronghold in the time of trouble. The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.

Safe in the arms of Jesus,1
Safe from corroding care,
Safe from the world’s temptations;
Sin cannot harm me there.
Free from the blight of sorrow,
Free from my doubts and fears;
Only a few more trials,
Only a few more tears!

Psalm 37:34-38

March 19, 2013

Wait for the LORD and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on when the wicked are cut off. I have seen a wicked, ruthless man, spreading himself like a green laurel tree. But he passed away, and behold, he was no more; though I sought him, he could not be found. Mark the blameless and behold the upright, for there is a future for the man of peace. But transgressors shall be altogether destroyed; the future of the wicked shall be cut off.

O, the promises in these verses; the knowledge that justice will prevail, that the Lord will provide a future for the one who pursues Shalom and that those who defy the Lord will receive the just penalty for their transgressions. It is not my concern, that the wicked appear to prosper, the Lord tells me not to worry, He will take care of the evil-doers, I am to keep my focus upon obedience to Him and His Word.

Psalm 37:32-33

March 18, 2013

The wicked watches for the righteous and seeks to put him to death. The LORD will not abandon him to his power or let him be condemned when he is brought to trial.

Lord, those who are followers of the Evil One are always searching and watching for a mis-step on the part of one of Your followers, quick to pounce in great glee if I stumble and fall. But You promise to stand with me, keeping me safe and secure in Your arms.

March 17, 2013

Remember your word to your servant, in which you have made me hope.

Your Word--that you will never leave me or forsake me. Your Word--that you will send the Comforter to guide me into all truth and to remind me of all You have said. Your Word--that You are reigning on high at the right hand of the Father with all things under Your command. Your Word--that You are coming in glory to make all things new including me. Your Word--the source of my hope, joy, and peace. Your Word!

Psalm 37:30-31

March 16, 2013

The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip.

The proof of the pudding is in the mouth of the obedient one, it is in the wise and just words that proceed from him that demonstrate the transforming power the Holy Spirit. The man of God proceeds through life, confident in the power and willingness of God to direct his life and guide him along every step of the King's Highway.

Psalm 37:27-29

March 15, 2013

Turn away from evil and do good; so shall you dwell forever. For the LORD loves justice; he will not forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off. The righteous shall inherit the land and dwell upon it forever.

A way of life--to be the Lord's Ambassador of Reconciliation, His steward of all He has created, to restore peace, righteousness and joy, to serve the lost, the least and the lonely, to be the Proclaimer of the Year of the Lord's favor, to be the Messenger of the Good News with the blessed feet--what a calling. Praise You, Lord.

Psalm 37:25-26

March 14, 2013

I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. He is ever lending generously, and his children become a blessing.

As my cup runs over, I must share the Lord's bounty with the needy. I must send my family out to be messengers of mercy and grace, both in carrying the the Good News and in being the hands of the Lord.

Psalm 37:23-24

March 13, 2013

The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand.

What a promise--that my steps are laid out by You as I study and absorb Your Word so that even though I stumble, You hang on to my hand and support me through the problem that my disobedience has caused. Praise You, Lord, thank You for Your mercy.

Psalm 37:21-22

March 12, 2013

The wicked borrows but does not pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives; for those blessed by the LORD shall inherit the land, but those cursed by him shall be cut off.

Perhaps this is an indicator as we work with various individuals to help them become established after release from prison. Are they faithful about repaying their debts and returning those items loaned to them? We grumble when we are not repaid, but we should be rejoicing for this is a clear signal that this person is not Yours in spite of all their protestations to the contrary.

Psalm 37:18-20

March 11, 2013

The LORD knows the days of the blameless, and their heritage will remain forever; they are not put to shame in evil times; in the days of famine they have abundance. But the wicked will perish; the enemies of the LORD are like the glory of the pastures; they vanish--like smoke they vanish away.

Lord, I believe that there is a familiar promise in this passage; once again You are emphasizing that You will never leave me nor forsake me. You are ever with the ones You love, meeting their needs even in times of extreme deprivation. The joy of the Lord is forever, constant and is not withheld from those who cherish You.

Psalm 119:46-47

March 10, 2013

I will also speak of your testimonies before kings and shall not be put to shame, for I find my delight in your commandments, which I love.

I am rarely called to speak before kings, Lord, but You do put me before many of the lost, least and lonely. What a spectrum before me, leaders of the community to the homeless. The incarcerated and the judges who sentenced them. The guards and the probation officers, the families and victims, to friends, family and neighbors. What a panoply of individuals! And I have nothing to say, no message of hope save through the words You give me. Let my mouth never be fouled with another gospel but that it will speak Your Gospel, the Good News of Jesus Christ.
