Psalm 119:164

January 20, 2013

Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous rules.

Lord, this is one area of my spiritual disciplines that is weak and failing. I still start on my day and forget to bring You into it. I do not stop to praise You and Your righteous laws; help me Lord, forgive me and transform me, according to Your promises to me.

Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.

Shout for joy, the joy of the Lord is my strength, give thanks to Him with music, skillfully and enthusiastically played, sing the new song He has placed in my heart and do so that all can hear my song of joy. Praise the Lord, O my soul.

Ephesians 3:14-21

January 18, 2013

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith--that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Lord, Paul was praying for my strength and awareness of Your presence in my heart, that I would have the strength to comprehend the totality of Your love and to experience the fullness of God in all aspects of my life. This is an awesome realization and one that awakens me to my responsibility to be praying for those who will follow me.

January 17, 2013

Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD. Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

Lord, I need to focus today on rejoicing in Your steadfastness. I need to take the blessings of yesterday and turn them to praise for You today. I need to shout for joy that my heart is functioning perfectly. Trust in Your love that surrounds me at all times and in all things.

January 16, 2013

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you.

Lord, lead me today as I go to the hearing in Family Court and counsel our young charge. Be with me in the meeting with the cardiologist and give him wisdom and discernment about my heart problems. Help me to glorify You in all these things today.

Psalm 32:6-7

January 15, 2013

Therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him. You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah

You are my hiding place, that special place that I can go to in times of turmoil and fear, when anxiety attempts to dissuade me me from the path of faith. You fill my heart with songs of deliverance. You provide a shield about me in all circumstances and through all trials. Praise You, my Lord and Master.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 90

Mid-day: 119:25-32

Evening: Psalm 16

Psalm 32:5

January 14, 2013

I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

This is a promise to be relied upon. And that sin includes lack of trust and the fearing that You are not with me in a time of trial. I can face my future, knowing that whatever the doctors decide, that I am in Your hands and that the outcome, if I trust You, will be to Your glory.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 89

Mid-day: 119:17-24

Evening: Psalm 15

Voices Together is available as an annual daily devotional and can be purchased at the Fellowship Of Ailbe bookstore.

Psalm 119:157-158

January 13, 2013

Many are my persecutors and my adversaries, but I do not swerve from your testimonies. I look at the faithless with disgust, because they do not keep your commands.

My persecutors and adversaries are the little distractions, the urges to check e-mail, or let my mind wander from the task You have set before me. Or to drop this right now and go get the pot of tea that is brewing in the kitchen. The Evil One can use the most innocent appearing activity or affection to pull me away from a time of communion with You. And I am a compliant participant. Help me, Lord, give me the power and the willingness to resist the sly wiles of the Father of Lies

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Psalm 32:3-4

January 12, 2013

Written approximately a year ago and the Lord answered my prayers

For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah

Lord, help me, my strength is dried up. Not from heat but from a heart that is not beating effectively. Help me, Lord, and guide the doctors.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Psalm 32:1-2

January 11, 2013

A Maskil of David. Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

My transgressions are forgiven, my sin is covered, You count no iniquity against me, You have planted Your Holy Spirit in me. The Blood of the Lamb of God has accomplished this. The Spirit moves within me to use me to bring glory to the LORD. Hallelujah! I am a new man in Christ Jesus.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 86

Mid-day: 119:169-176

Evening: Psalm 12

Voices Together is available as an annual daily devotional and can be purchased at the Fellowship Of Ailbe bookstore.

John 16:8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:

1 John 1:8-10 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Where is there sin in me, Lord? What sin needs to be rooted out and confessed?  Where is self still being elevated as a god in my eyes, stealing the praise and adulation that is rightfully Yours?   May the Holy Spirit lead me in a ruthless examination of my soul.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 85

Mid-day: 119:161-168

Psalm 31:23-24

January 09, 2013

Love the LORD, all you his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride. Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!

Deuteronomy 31:8 It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed."

John 14:23 Jesus answered him, "If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him."

Take comfort, my soul, in the Word of the Lord.
