Psalm 130:6-18

October 31, 2011

Psalm 130:6-18

The LORD works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel. The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children's children, to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; it has no boundaries; it cannot be stemmed; it is passed from generation to generation. All is available to those who keep his covenant and remember to follow his commandments.

Psalm 103:1-5

October 29, 2011

Psalm 103:1-5

Of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Yes, Lord, it is so easy to forget that You are the Great Provider of All Things. I sometimes remember the “big” blessings, but do I remember to thank you, remember to recognize Your hand in the everyday? No! I go about my day, oblivious to all the evidence of Your hand of provision on my life. I just enjoyed a few bites of a leftover from dinner; I consumed it without a thought of Your Goodness that caused this to be available to satisfy my hunger. When will I learn?

Romans 11:33-36

October 28, 2011

Romans 11:33-36

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! "For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?" "Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?" For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

From You and through You and to You are all things. To You be glory forever. Amen. One of the magnificent statements of Your totality. But what am I trying to hold back? Trying to reserve as my own domain? Show me, LORD, and lead me in the Way Everlasting.

Psalm 102:23-28

October 27, 2011

Psalm 102:23-28

He has broken my strength in midcourse; he has shortened my days. "O my God," I say, "take me not away in the midst of my days-- you whose years endure throughout all generations!" Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end. The children of your servants shall dwell secure; their offspring shall be established before you.

Lord, sea and sky will pass away, the mountains will become hillocks, but Your mighty work of restoration of Your Creation will endure forever. We, Your people, will be gathered into Your Presence, there to spend eternity singing Your praises and enjoying Your company. The Kingdom will have advanced to completion.

Psalm 102:12-22

October 26, 2011

Psalm 102:12-22

But you, O LORD, are enthroned forever; you are remembered throughout all generations. You will arise and have pity on Zion; it is the time to favor her; the appointed time has come. For your servants hold her stones dear and have pity on her dust. Nations will fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth will fear your glory. For the LORD builds up Zion; he appears in his glory; he regards the prayer of the destitute and does not despise their prayer. Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet to be created may praise the LORD: that he looked down from his holy height; from heaven the LORD looked at the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners, to set free those who were doomed to die, that they may declare in Zion the name of the LORD, and in Jerusalem his praise, when peoples gather together, and kingdoms, to worship the LORD.

I know that there are many faithful who have not bowed the knee to Baal, that they work and speak of Your love and mercy. Lord, cause their numbers to increase, cause their voices to be raised in praise, cause my voice and life to be one of those. Praise You, Lord, You are the triumphant One.

Psalm 102:3-11

October 25, 2011

Psalm 102:3-11

For my days pass away like smoke, and my bones burn like a furnace. My heart is struck down like grass and has withered; I forget to eat my bread. Because of my loud groaning my bones cling to my flesh. I am like a desert owl of the wilderness, like an owl of the waste places; I lie awake; I am like a lonely sparrow on the housetop. All the day my enemies taunt me; those who deride me use my name for a curse. For I eat ashes like bread and mingle tears with my drink, because of your indignation and anger; for you have taken me up and thrown me down. My days are like an evening shadow; I wither away like grass.

Lord, Betty is suffering from the pains of shingles and sciatica and fearful of taking the pain relief that has been proscribed..I beg You for Your holy relief and for Your power to heal and restore. Give her the strength to carry through and to glorify You in this. Help me to be a loving and supportive husband to her in this difficulty. (Written In August, 2010. Praise the Lord for His healing)

Psalm 102:1-2

October 24, 2011
Psalm 102:1-2

A Prayer of one afflicted, when he is faint and pours out his complaint before the LORD. Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry come to you! Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress! Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call!

You always answer speedily, Lord, even if I don't hear. Sometimes I am so tangled in the problem that I ignore that quiet voice saying, “I am here, Son. We will get through this together.” Thank You for it is Your Presence that provides the righteousness, peace and joy of Kingdom living, the sense of Serenity that the Holy Spirit provides.

Psalm 119:26

October 30, 2011

Psalm 119:26

When I told of my ways, you answered me; teach me your statutes!

Lord, tame my tongue as only You can do. Why don't I listen to those "don't say that" nudges form the Holy Spirit? I know what You have to say about the tongue; awareness is not the problem, obedience is. Another place where the old man is still kicking and active.

October 23, 2011

Psalm 119:17

Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your word.

You do deal bountifully, even in the face of my fitful obedience. But, Lord, continue to exercise my heart to seek you, to hunger after understanding, to thirst for obedience and to yearn for Your presence. Therein is life, true life, life to the fullest, a life of knowing You.

1 Thessalonians 1:2-7

October 22, 2011

1 Thessalonians 1:2-7

We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, (3) remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. (4) For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, (5) because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. (6) And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, (7) so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.

There is a progression here from Paul's prayers for the Thessalonians to their ministry. Not only did they receive the word of salvation but they were imbued with the power and conviction of the Holy Spirit. There is the source of their witness.

Psalm 101:8

October 21, 2011

Psalm 101:8

Morning by morning I will destroy all the wicked in the land, cutting off all the evildoers from the city of the LORD.

What a awful picture here as You declare that You will purge the apostate from among the believers. Yes, Lord, there is a day coming when You will clean Your Church and set the faithful to be Your light shining brightly on top of Your hill as the City of God. Come, Lord Jesus, come.

Psalm 101:2-7

October 20, 2011

Psalm 101:2-7

I will ponder the way that is blameless. Oh when will you come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house; I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall be far from me; I will know nothing of evil. Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure. I will look with favor on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks in the way that is blameless shall minister to me. No one who practices deceit shall dwell in my house; no one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes.

This is a heavy shopping list, defining my behavior before the world. Impossible in my own strength and through my own initiative, but attainable through the power of the Holy Spirit that You have granted to me. My responsibility is to listen and obey.
