Psalm 101:1

October 19, 2011

Psalm 101:1

A Psalm of David. I will sing of steadfast love and justice; to you, O LORD, I will make music.

I will tell the wondrous story,
How my lost estate to save,
In His boundless love and mercy,
He the ransom freely gave.

Sing, oh sing, of my Redeemer,
With His blood, He purchased me.
On the cross, He sealed my pardon,
Paid the debt, and made me free.

Ephesians 5:15-17

Ephesians 5:15-17

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

This is a powerful passage; two short sentences packed with an entire outline of my life as it should be lived as a disciple of Jesus Christ. It starts with an admonition to take care for the state of my walk and ends with the advice to seek an understanding of Your will. The two ends are tied with the instruction to walk wisely making the best use of my time, avoiding foolish pursuits and activities. Much to mull over and meditate upon!

Psalm 100:4-5

October 17, 2011

Psalm 100:4-5

Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! (5) For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

I must come into Your presence with thanksgiving in my heart and on my lips! And since You are totally immanent, that praise must be a continuous issuance from me, as the drones of a bagpipe underlie the harmonies of the chanter. I am not there, Your praise is not always in my mouth and on my heart. I repent, I seek a continuation of the transformation into Your image. Guide me, Holy Spirit.

Psalm 100:1-3

October 15, 2011

Psalm 100:1-3

A Psalm for giving thanks. Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

To serve You with gladness, to know that in Your presence is joy forevermore; to know that I am the work of Your hand and the fruit of Your plans for the creation; to know that You are the Great Shepherd and that I am one of Your chosen lambs, this is indeed joy forevermore.

Ephesians 1:3-14

October 14, 2011

Ephesians 1:3-14

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

I know the blessings are all there; not a one missing, but I have trouble reaching out and grasping them, let alone remembering to reach out and thank and praise You

Psalm 99:6-9

October 13, 2011

Psalm 99:6-9

Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel also was among those who called upon his name. They called to the LORD, and he answered them. In the pillar of the cloud he spoke to them; they kept his testimonies and the statute that he gave them. O LORD our God, you answered them; you were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their wrongdoings. Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the LORD our God is holy!

Lord, this passage brings to mind the many faithful servants today who are calling the Church to account, begging and pleading for a return to obedience; urging those who have only given You lip service to bend the knee in submission and cry out to You for guidance into a life of holiness. Bless those faithful men and women, encourage them in an often thankless task as the faithless ridicule and deride their entreaties.

Psalm 99:4-5

October 12, 2011

Psalm 99:4-5

The King in his might loves justice. You have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. Exalt the LORD our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he!

My prayer is for the advancement of the Kingdom, for Your righteousness, peace, and justice to be the rule of the land. It appears that the Evil One is in ascendency at the present time; he has put his minions in power throughout the nation, but it is only a facade, You are coming to redeem Your people is soon; it is evident from the signs of the times.

The LORD reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake! he LORD is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples. Let them praise your great and awesome name! Holy is he!

The LORD reigns! And all creation trembles and quakes at the sight. You are the Almighty One, the Ancient of Days, the Alpha and Omega, The One who speaks and it comes to pass. You are Holy, You are Light, You are Love, You are Justice, You are Mercy, Your are Peace, You are LORD, God Almighty.

Colossians 4:2-6

October 10, 2011

Colossians 4:2-6

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison-- that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

Declaring the mystery of Christ clearly and walking wisely. Basic instructions for disciple making. The two simultaneous facets of the Great Commission.

Ground rules are to make the best use of my time and always speak graciously with appropriately seasoned words. Then I am in position to declare the mystery of Christ and to lead others into walking with Him.

Psalm 119:2-3

Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in His ways!

O the blessings that accrue as I learn to seek You with my whole heart and as I learn to walk in Your ways. One of the first blessing to enjoy is that You lead me in the path of righteousness, a most pleasant and joyous lane through life. Thank You and praise You, my Lord and my Master.

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who dwell in it! Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

Maranatha, maranatha. Come, Lord Jesus, come. Let the celebration begin, let all of creation shout for joy for the final realization of restoration of all to Shalom. Righteousness restored, the glory of the LORD revealed in all its splendor. Maranatha, maranatha.
