Psalm 81:13-18

February 21, 2014

Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways! I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes. Those who hate the LORD would cringe toward him, and their fate would last forever. But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you."

Lord, that all who call themselves Christians would listen to You and realize that life in the Kingdom of Heaven is a life of peace, righteousness and joy in the Holy Spirit. It is a life of consummate communion with the one true God and His Son, Jesus Christ whom He has sent. It is a life where His Church hears, “ You are precious, you are powerful, you are beautiful, I love you… And my Spirit will accomplish what you cannot.”* Hallelujah.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 45 Mid-day: 119:73-80 Evening: Psalm 121

Psalm 81:8-1

February 20, 2014

Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel, if you would but listen to me! There shall be no strange god among you; you shall not bow down to a foreign god. I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. "But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels.

O, that we would heed Your voice of warning, that we would heed the lessons of Israel as they turned to other gods and forsook Your Word. Yes, there is a faithful remnant, a portion who heed Your voice; bring revival to those who name the Name but refuse to obey.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 44 Mid-day: 119:65-72 Evening: Psalm 120

Psalm 81:6-7

"I relieved your shoulder of the burden; your hands were freed from the basket. In distress you called, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah

Lord, You lift the crushing burden of sin and disobedience from our shoulders, You deliver us from guilt and shame when we call out to You. You, in Your great mercy, have lifted those burdens and declared that “it is finished,” by Your stripes we are healed.

Psalm 81:1-5

To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith. Of Asaph. Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob! Raise a song; sound the tambourine, the sweet lyre with the harp. Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the full moon, on our feast day. For it is a statute for Israel, a rule of the God of Jacob. He made it a decree in Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt. I hear a language I had not known:

Let us raise our voices in praise and worship. Praise and worship that calls for our entire beings entering into the paeans. Shout to the Lord a new song.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 42 Mid-day: 119:49-56 Evening: Psalm 117

Revelation 3:14-17

"And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: 'The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation. "'I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.

Is this the state of the Church today? Tepid and self-satisfied? Totally unaware of its pitiful state before the Lord and ridiculed for its naivety by the culture in which it exists.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 41 Mid-day: 119:41-48 Evening: Psalm 116

Psalm 119:73

February 16, 2014

Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.

Yes, I am Your creation, Your handiwork. I need to grow in understanding to see more fully the beauty of my place in Your Kingdom.

Psalm 80:14-19

February 15, 2014

Turn again, O God of hosts! Look down from heaven, and see; have regard for this vine, the stock that your right hand planted, and for the son whom you made strong for yourself. They have burned it with fire; they have cut it down; may they perish at the rebuke of your face! But let your hand be on the man of your right hand, the son of man whom you have made strong for yourself! Then we shall not turn back from you; give us life, and we will call upon your name! Restore us, O LORD God of hosts! Let your face shine, that we may be saved!

Now, right now, not tomorrow but now—today, we need Your Spirit to bring us to a state of repentance and seeking a walk of obedience to Your Word. We need to be brought to our knees in tears, weeping for our sinful hearts and pride and greed and murderous natures and … Heal Your Church, O, Lord.

Psalm 80:8-13

February 14, 2014

You brought a vine out of Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it. You cleared the ground for it; it took deep root and filled the land. The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches. It sent out its branches to the sea and its shoots to the River. Why then have you broken down its walls, so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit? The boar from the forest ravages it, and all that move in the field feed on it.

Lord, the story of Your Church is a story of Your revivals. From the very beginning in Palestine to the present day, Your Spirit has been unleashed to convict of sin and bring the lost into Your fold. Each is a story of Your Grace and needs to be brought to the attention of today's Church to instruct us.

Psalm 80:4-7

February 13, 2014

O LORD God of hosts, how long will you be angry with your people's prayers? You have fed them with the bread of tears and given them tears to drink in full measure. You make us an object of contention for our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves. Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved!

How long will You be angry with our prayers? Proverbs 28:9 provides the answer. “If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.” How long will Your Church tolerate sin in its presence? How much longer will the Church to raise its voice in indignation regarding the moral decay of the secular society that is our nation today?

Psalm 80:1-3

February 12, 2014

To the choirmaster: according to Lilies. A Testimony. Of Asaph, a Psalm. Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock! You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth. Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up your might and come to save us! Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved!

Lord, send Your Spirit to waken Your Church. We are like a sleeping giant, tossing and turning in restless slumber, ineffective in the world around us. Rouse us, Lord, to work at those tasks You ordained for us since before the beginning of time.

I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, ...so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift,

We, the Church, are not lacking in any spiritual gift even as the saints of Corinth were not lacking in Paul's day. But like them, we find that we are infected with sin.

Reading this on the 41st anniversary of Roe v. Wade is a heart wrenching exercise. Where are the prayer vigils for the 56,000,000 precious lives snuffed out by the Sin of Moloch, by the God of Choice? For those women whose lives have been shattered by the guilt and trauma? Where the outreaches to those facing this decision? For the parents of teens involved in a pregnancy? Are we imitating the German Church standing quietly by as the Nazis imposed ethnic cleansing on 6,000,000 Jews plus 5,000,000 other undesirables?

Lord, bring revival to Your Church, bring obedience to Your Word, bring that Spirit of Love of Neighbor that builds the exercise of those gifts You have infused within us.

“Restore us, O God;

Psalm 79:11-13

February 10, 2014

Let the groans of the prisoners come before you; according to your great power, preserve those doomed to die! Return sevenfold into the lap of our neighbors the taunts with which they have taunted you, O Lord! But we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise.

Return us, O Lord, to the fire of our first love. Restore us to the joy of our salvation. Fill us once again with the love for Your Word and the consuming desire to obey You in every aspect of our lives. May we once again acknowledge Your Supremacy in all things.
