Psalm 75:1

January 04, 2014

For the choir director; set to Al-tashheth. A Psalm of Asaph, a Song. We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks, For Your name is near; Men declare Your wondrous works.

A late fall afternoon with a steely light warning of the winter soon to be upon us; finches, nuthatches and the occasional woodpecker at the feeders; brown trees hugging the mountains; the fields dressed in a yellow green; the Creation continues its orderly progression through the seasons; God continuing to declare His love of order and beauty so that all can see. He is a God of order not a god of chaos; a God of all things under His control, foreordained before the beginning of time, not a god of the irrational and random event.

Psalm 74:18-23

January 02, 2014

Remember this, O LORD, that the enemy has reviled, And a foolish people has spurned Your name. Do not deliver the soul of Your turtledove to the wild beast; Do not forget the life of Your afflicted forever. Consider the covenant; For the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence. Let not the oppressed return dishonored; Let the afflicted and needy praise Your name. Arise, O God, and plead Your own cause; Remember how the foolish man reproaches You all day long. Do not forget the voice of Your adversaries, The uproar of those who rise against You which ascends continually.

There is a remnant, a few who have not bowed the knee to the Ba`als. Consider them, O Lord, may I be among that few—chastise me and make me fit for Your Kingdom.

Psalm 74:9-17

January 01, 2014

We do not see our signs; There is no longer any prophet, Nor is there any among us who knows how long. How long, O God, will the adversary revile, And the enemy spurn Your name forever? Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand? From within Your bosom, destroy them! Yet God is my king from of old, Who works deeds of deliverance in the midst of the earth. You divided the sea by Your strength; You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters. You crushed the heads of Leviathan; You gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness. You broke open springs and torrents; You dried up ever-flowing streams. Yours is the day, Yours also is the night; You have prepared the light and the sun. You have established all the boundaries of the earth; You have made summer and winter.

We, the Church in this country, are blind to the signs of your displeasure. We do not listen to the prophets you send, but ridicule them. We sow the seeds of our own destruction and then blame You for the consequences. How long, O Lord, how long until Your might breaks forth and restores?

Psalm 74:1-8

December 31, 2013

A Maskil of Asaph. O God, why have You rejected us forever? Why does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture? Remember Your congregation, which You have purchased of old, Which You have redeemed to be the tribe of Your inheritance; And this Mount Zion, where You have dwelt. Turn Your footsteps toward the perpetual ruins; The enemy has damaged everything within the sanctuary. Your adversaries have roared in the midst of Your meeting place; They have set up their own standards for signs. It seems as if one had lifted up His axe in a forest of trees. And now all its carved work They smash with hatchet and hammers. They have burned Your sanctuary to the ground; They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name. They said in their heart, "Let us completely subdue them." They have burned all the meeting places of God in the land.

Divorce is comparable with the secular society, cohabitation is rampant, abortion is excused, the Lord's Day is weakly observed, we take Your Name in vain, material gain drives our lives, pornography is destroying many marriages, prayer lives are flaccid, we excuse lack of adherence to the Word, we violate Your Commandments with impunity. We are a disgrace to Your Holy Name.

Romans 12:1-2

December 30, 2013

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Lord, Your Church, has fallen away, we have assimilated with the culture around us, we are no longer in the world, we are of it. When will we seek transformation so that we will be the proof, the evidence of all that is good and acceptable and perfect? When, Lord, when?

Psalm 119:23-24

December 29, 2013

Even though princes sit plotting against me, your servant will meditate on your statutes. Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors.

Going into court today, facing members of the Westine family who are hostile to our guardianship, I need to remember that a gentle answer turns away wrath, that my responses must always be filled with grace and comfort. Give me awareness and sensitivity to Myretta's family to recognize the grief and sense of loss as they face the reality of her decline.

Psalm 73:27-28

December 28, 2013

For, behold, those who are far from You will perish; You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to You. But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, That I may tell of all Your works.

Lord, that I may tell of Your great grace and mercy, Lord, give me boldness to declare Your greatness.

December 27, 2013

Psalm 73:21-24

December 26, 2013

When my heart was embittered and I was pierced within, Then I was senseless and ignorant; I was like a beast before You. Nevertheless I am continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand. With Your counsel You will guide me, And afterward receive me to glory.

What a comparison. Senseless and ignorant vs.alive and filled with Wisdom. A beast vs. a child of the King. Alone and stumbling through life vs. walking with You and being guided from one degree of glory into the next. Halleluajh.

Psalm 73:18-20

December 25, 2013

Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction. How they are destroyed in a moment! They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors! Like a dream when one awakes, O Lord, when aroused, You will despise their form.

The wiles of the Evil One, gone, swept from my psyche in a moment by the cleansing power of the cross of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit to comfort me and keep my eyes on the goal; the peace of God guarding my mind in Jesus Christ, the Lord.

Psalm 73:15-17

December 24, 2013

If I had said, "I will speak thus," Behold, I would have betrayed the generation of Your children. When I pondered to understand this, It was troublesome in my sight Until I came into the sanctuary of God; Then I perceived their end.

It is only when I realize that the so-called glories of this world will not survive the flames of an eternal fire that any hint of jealousy or covetousness dies. It is comforting to know that moths, rust and thieves are not a problem; that my indestructible treasure is being held for me in Heaven. That is where my heart is. (Matt. 6:19-21)
