Psalm 77:4-6

January 16, 2014

You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. I consider the days of old, the years long ago. I said, "Let me remember my song in the night; let me meditate in my heart." Then my spirit made a diligent search:

Yet eventually the time comes when my spirit makes a diligent search, listening for Your Voice, meditating on Your Word. And You come.

Psalm 77:1-3

January 15, 2014

To the choirmaster: according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph. I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me. In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted. When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah

When will I remember to turn to you immediately in a time of trouble. When trouble begins and I lay awake at night, why don't I stretch my hand out to you rather than tossing and turning and refusing to be comforted by the God of All Comfort.

Hebrews 12:1

January 14, 2014

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

“Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses...” and a cloud that contains far more witnesses than are included in Hebrews 11:13-40, I am called to strip myself of every impediment and live for the Glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. I must keep before me those who suffer grievously for His Namesake today, I must be ever aware that what I am called to endure is trivial in the greater scheme of the Body. Guide me, Holy Spirit .

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 7

Mid-day: 119:121-128

Evening: Psalm 82

Psalm 76:10-12

January 13, 2014

Surely the wrath of man shall praise you; the remnant of wrath you will put on like a belt. Make your vows to the LORD your God and perform them; let all around him bring gifts to him who is to be feared, who cuts off the spirit of princes, who is to be feared by the kings of the earth.

Someday all will declare You as Lord, every knee will bow and acknowledge that You are the Risen One, the Lamb of God who took away the sin of the world but for many it will be too late. Let all who have accepted Your Lordship stand among the throng of saints to sing your praises on the Day.

Psalm 119:37

January 12, 2014

Psalm 119:37

Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.

What is a worthless thing? Is it not anything that does not glorify You? Something that steals my attention and efforts away from advancing the Kingdom? Anything that sullies Your name? Anything that destroys rather than bringing love and life?

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 5

Mid-day: 119:105-112

Evening: Psalm 80

Voices Together is available as an annual daily devotional and can be purchased at the Fellowship Of Ailbe bookstore.

Psalm 76:7-9

January 11, 2014

But you, you are to be feared! Who can stand before you when once your anger is roused? From the heavens you uttered judgment; the earth feared and was still, when God arose to establish judgment, to save all the humble of the earth. Selah

There are none who can stand before You and claim self-sufficiency, who can claim that they have lived a sinless life. All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. Yet You have stooped to become a man and have lifted the humble and contrite out of the slime and set them at Your right hand.

Mid-day: 119:97-104

Evening: Psalm 79

Psalm 76:4-6

January 10, 2014

Glorious are you, more majestic than the mountains of prey. The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil; they sank into sleep; all the men of war were unable to use their hands. At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse lay stunned.

You are the Almighty One, the One who brings justice to replace injustice, mercy to replace cruelty, and grace to replace harshness.

Psalm 76:1-3

January 09, 2014

To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song. In Judah God is known; his name is great in Israel. His abode has been established in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion. There he broke the flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah

Praise You. Lord Jesus, for You have established the Kingdom of God on earth reigning over your people. You walk with us through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, shielding us from the weapons of the Evil One.

1 Corinthians 15:20-24

January 08, 2014

But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.

“Then comes the End” when Christ's “It is finished” is delivered to the LORD God Almighty as a Kingdom completely restored to pristine Shalom. Maranatha, come Lord Jesus come.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 1

Mid-day: 119:73-80

Evening: Psalm 76

Voices Together is available as an annual daily devotional and can be purchased at the Fellowship Of Ailbe bookstore.

Psalm 75:9-10

January 07, 2014

But as for me, I will declare it forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. And all the horns of the wicked He will cut off, But the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.

What a glorious Day, to enter into the throngs singing the praises of the God of Jacob, to be among those whose purpose is to exult the Name of the LORD God Almighty and to bend our knees before the Throne, declaring that Jesus Christ is Lord. Come, Lord Jesus, come.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 150

Mid-day: 119:65-72

Psalm 75:2-8

January 06, 2014

"When I select an appointed time, It is I who judge with equity. "The earth and all who dwell in it melt; It is I who have firmly set its pillars. Selah. "I said to the boastful, 'Do not boast,' And to the wicked, 'Do not lift up the horn; Do not lift up your horn on high, Do not speak with insolent pride.'" For not from the east, nor from the west, Nor from the desert comes exaltation; But God is the Judge; He puts down one and exalts another. For a cup is in the hand of the LORD, and the wine foams; It is well mixed, and He pours out of this; Surely all the wicked of the earth must drain and drink down its dregs.

The day is coming, the Day of Judgment when all must stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ and give account for our lives. For some, when required to pay the penalty for disobedience can point to the Cross of Christ and their name written on the Lamb's Book of Life and declare, “It is finished, You paid it all.” For all others, forced to admit that all their righteousness has been as filthy rags, to hear that awful pronouncement, “Be gone from me” and to be cast into the Lake of Eternal Fire.

Psalm 119:29

January 05, 2014

Put false ways far from me and graciously teach me your law!

I know, Lord, that I try to fool myself with false humility, but that does not even work with a simpleton like me. How can I expect You to be hoodwinked? Oh, Lord, write Your Law on my heart that I might truly live in obedience to Your will.
