He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them. The LORD preserves all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy. My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD, and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

The conclusion of this magnificent paean to the LORD, God, the Almighty. And its focus is?????? His relationship with His People, His Church; the relationship between the Trinitarian God and his People. One thing that is becoming very clear to me is Psalm 19 and Psalm 145 are the bookends of this relationship.

The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

A straight forward statement of the goodness of the LORD, God, the Almighty, but with warnings. It is appropriate for the LORD to stipulate that our requests to Him are based on truth and not exaggerations.

Ish Elohim, a fulfilled man of God, finds no reason for being except to trust the LORD, God, the Almighty. Even when faced by a taunter, his calls on the LORD for his protection. So often, I fall back on attempting to debate with my tormentor, relying on my own wits to carry the day. NEVER. Ish Elohim turns to the Word for his support and weapons. He gives all credit to the LORD, God, the Almighty.

The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.

The implications of this short statement are widespread and of enormous importance in our understanding of the dimensions of our relationship with the LORD, God, the Almighty. Look at that first sentence. He is gracious, merciful and abounding in steadfast love, BUT there are limits on each; He is slow to anger implies that He can be angered. A limit on graciousness? A limit to His mercy? A limit on His steadfast mercy? Not in our usual human sense, ie a withdrawal of His mercy? No, not at all, but a point at which He can and will become angered at my intransigence.

On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

A Song of Praise. Of David. I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.

A Psalm to be followed day by day as a guideline for my day. I need to begin and end my day with a meditation upon and a prayer using a section of this Psalm as guides.

“ LORD, God, the Almighty lead me into a complete understanding and compliance with what is meant to extol you. Set a reminder through the Holy Spirit when I avoid, either by inattention or deliberate avoidance, an opportunity to give You the glory.

I will sing a new song to you, O God; upon a ten-stringed harp I will play to you, who gives victory to kings, who rescues David his servant from the cruel sword. Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners, whose mouths speak lies and whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood. May our sons in their youth be like plants full grown, our daughters like corner pillars cut for the structure of a palace; may our granaries be full, providing all kinds of produce; may our sheep bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields; may our cattle be heavy with young, suffering no mishap or failure in bearing; may there be no cry of distress in our street. Blessed are the people to whom such blessings fall! Blessed are the people whose God is the LORD!

A beautiful but somewhat difficult passage as the Psalmist begins with praise, segues into a plea for protection and concludes with a request for provisions and a recognition that it is upon the LORD’s will, Him and Him alone that these blessings fall.

But isn't it or shouldn’t it be the pattern of the normal Christian life. We praise, we petition for protection and finally recognize that it is entirely upon the will the LORD, God, the Almighty. We must recognize that His judgment is perfect; without flaw.

Of David. Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; he is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield and he in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me.

“Blessed be the LORD, my rock.” There is a small, fist sized, granite rock that has lain on our porch railing for several years. An undistinguished gray, worn smooth by years of tumbling in a Vermont stream somewhere, but a very precious rock; a gift from a sister in the LORD.

Why! Because a dear sister, Mary, had selected that rock for a special service. She painted a short, but immensely powerful message on it. “Jesus is my rock” and carefully placed it our railing as a declaration to all that they were about to enter a home that strives to honor the LORD, God, the Almighty.

We haven’t seen Mary for several years, but the rock still sits where she placed it, Both as an announcement to all who enter our home, but equally to us as we leave. We go on the Name of the LORD.

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground! For your name's sake, O LORD, preserve my life! In your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble! And in your steadfast love you will cut off my enemies, and you will destroy all the adversaries of my soul, for I am your servant.

How rich. How comforting. How filled with compassion. Betty and I finished our nightly reading the of TableTalk monthly devotional and found that it applied to this passage. An interesting article discussing the LORD’s impassibility vs, man’s passibility. Quick definition of each is that man responds to agents outside himself (think of the immediate salutatory reaction to the aroma of a properly prepared steak on the grill-that’s being passible) and cannot avoid be responsive vs the LORD who does not respond to any outside agency.

Now go back and read that passage with the knowledge that the LORD, God, the Almighty is IMPASSIBLE! That’s comfort. That’s compassion.
